  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I was hearing some valve or knocking noises coming from my engine, so I brought my car in.

My dealer told me I was down 3 quarts of oil!!!

My last oil change was at 16,500mi and I now had 21,500mi, or 5000 miles of driving. I have been doing oil changes every 4000-5000miles.

I asked, how can that be and the "genius" woman behind the service desk told me, " Oh, it's a known fact that Hyundai's use 1 quart of oil every 1000 miles."

Knowing that she had no idea what she was talking about, I said, ok, so you do the math?

Then I asked, so how come the engine oil light never came on?
No answer back....

Why am I down 3 quarts in 4000 miles???

Has anyone else had any issues with oil consumption?

What would now do, knowing this?

FYI - The only light that would illuminate would be your low oil pressure light, and that would only happen when your oil is so low that there isn't enough to keep pressure.

I suppose your check engine light would come on if the lack of oil caused physical damage to your engine causing low compression as well.

There is no oil level monitor.

The consumption you are experiencing is a known problem with the R-Spec.

Thanks I guess I missed this posting
