If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2012 spotted on the lots!

That's what the dealers i saw yesterday said. They get the 2012s randomly. The one where i drove the 2012 v6 said he(the dealership general manager) could see a v8 coming his way through there computer program but wont know any details until his dealership is invoiced.

What are the requirements for using the USAA buying service? How has their pricing compared to Hyundai Circle pricing? Does Costco still have their program available for purchasing Genesis?

Any military person (active duty or retired) can join USAA. They are known to have some of the lowest auto and home prices around. If you are a member, then you have access to their auto buying program. You select the car you want to buy, fill out the menu, give them your email address and phone number, and they give it to a participating dealer who calls you to arrange an appointment to try to sell you the car. Print out the price USAA says they will sell the car for you and make sure the dealer sells it for that price. This is NO haggling. They must sell you the car for that price. Not all dealerships are in on this. My local dealership is not part of this program. The nearest dealer in this program is approx 70 miles away.

Thanks for the update Gadget. My guess was that Hyundai would keep the firmness but make it less harsh over uneven surfaces and from your review it sounds like that's what they've done. I can't wait to test drive it and if my hunch is confirmed then I'm first in line ordering the changed suspension parts for my '10 Genesis. Maybe a group of us could organize on the forum and setup a group buy. It may be premature but I'm feeling better about this car already! A Genesis with a great ride...now that's one great car.

Here are some pics from San Jose, CA this morning... all V6's

Noteworthy info:

1. The seats are definitely different. The cushion is softer but the side areas are a harder foam and are MUCH better in terms of lateral support. However, the height still seems too, well, "high"... wish the seat would drop closer to the floor.

2. Black premium interiors now have the dark black wood vs. walnut.

3. The rectangular tailpipes are just trimmed holes in the bumper (like most cars with these...)

i agree but that license plate area on the overseas versions really changed the way the rear end came out (imo) the overseas version looks "right" the US version's smaller plate area really changed how i felt once i saw these pics today. and i really dislike the taillights. look like "eyes" lol makes you wonder if the original design didn't incorporate the clear part of the lens design to meet the chrome lip on the trunk lid or it was just coincidental?? the new ones don't have any corresponding feature linking it to the chrome trunk lid molding like the original design?

what a pita i am. can you put a pic of the US spec and overseas spec next to each other?

I agree with the assessment of the rear lights. Don't like them at all. despite the rectangular tail pipes vs. ovals, the lights look much taller now that they're all red. And, dare I say, more feminine. The original design carried the line in the body right around through the tails to the chrome strip. The new design, no. Look at the picture on the right... the body crease-to-white/red split tail-to chrome makes sense.

i would venture to guess hyundai's (Genesis) original design team didn't create these updates. it's almost like they just looked at the newer LS 460's and said "i want to incorporate this" into the sides and rear. i know they needed to make some updates but just wish they didn't go cookie cutter on them. this car should evolve into it's own not go even further down the conservative road it started on. funny though, how lexus made the smae (mistake to me) changes from the original LS400 to the LS430. the car lost its edgy yet conservative style and straight conservative. i loved the look of that original car, just like these. guess it's hard to improve upon such a beatiful design. they definately didn't take a long hard look into the changes/updated exterior (guess it makes sense, sort of a stop gap until the new redesigned Genesis sedan is ready?).

still a beuatiful car, changes to the rest of the car are great. i give the upgrades a B+.

more importantly how did the 8speed auto feel?

If the 2012 suspension is significantly better and can be applied to my 2010 4.6 then count me in as part of the group buy. I love everything about my Genesis but the ride could be better on rough Chicago area roads. (Does anyone know a good independent suspension firm in the Chicago area that can install these parts?)

Once theirs a consensus on the benefits of the new '12 ride (heck its got to be better) how could we develop a "group buy"? An early step has to be finding a friendly provider. I bought my complete rebadge kit for about 70 bucks including shipping (If I recall correctly, its been a while) and I've seen the price of that same kit vary over a 100%! Of course prior to finidng a supplier we need to know which parts to switch out (Hyundai could really make this easy but we shouldn't hold our breaths waiting for this). OK OK this is dangeroussly close to hijaking this thread. Sorry but I got a little excited after Gadget's update. Maybe I'll start a thread and we can start this process proper.

Jmatero the seats are more comfortale too? Gosh I buy a car once every 7 to 10 years but may be time to change that pattern! Vive La Geneisis!

Is it possible to special order colors with Hyundai? If I wanted a white spec-r will Hyundai do that or do I just have to paint the car?

You can try and get your dealer to reserve one of stock colors or option packages that will be imported by HMA. But neither you, nor your dealer, can order from the factory in Korea. HMA orders the cars from the factory and sells them to dealers, and the available options/colors for those orders are planned well in advance.

There is sometimes a little more flexibility for cars assembled in the US in terms of factory orders, but probably not in terms of going outside the colors/options that have already been decided for a particular model year.

Here is where I got the parts for the 2010 suspension upgrade. Their prices are about 20-25% below local dealer quotes. You pay shipping, but no state taxes. This is a real Hyundai dealer in South Carolina.

I doubt they will give you much of a break for a group buy, especially if they have to ship to different locations, or if they all go to a single member in the group, that person will have to re-ship the items (which gets expensive). Probably not worth the trouble to even try and organize it.

Hardest part is probably going to be to find a qualified installer to do it at a reasonable price. I paid about $625 for my 2010 upgrade install (labor only) at an independent suspension shop (plus $1025 for parts from above website). Dealer will probably want about $1500 - $2,000 just for labor (this assumes 4 springs, 4 shocks/struts, and rear stabilizer).

Thanks for info Mark...actually I imagine I'll install the parts myself. I've worked on cars for years and if this is about replacing shocks and stabilizer bars then I think couild handle it. Thanks again for the info.

This is only an educated guess (based on 2010 Genesis suspension changes) but the springs are probably also different. Anyone can replace the stabilizer bar.

Regarding shocks, Genesis calls them shocks in rear, and struts in front. The part numbers for the 2010 changes have been posted on this forum, so you can compare those with the equivalent 2012 part numbers to see if there is a difference.

You will need to borrow a 2012 VIN (V8 or V6 as appropriate, since some parts may be different) before you start shopping for 2012 parts. You can get these from most dealer websites or just visit their lot. Parts will usually need to be imported from Korea, so will probably take a few weeks to get.

Mark, I am far from being an automotive expert, but in addition to shocks and struts doesn't a car's suspension also depend on how its computer is calibrated? Correct me if I'm wrong, but in addition to replacing parts shouldn't the car's electronics also be adjusted? And is this possible? I would like to think this is a simple fix, and I sure hope it is a simple fix, but I have a suspicion that improving the suspension on rough roads might be more complicated than just replacing the shocks and struts.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Strange the pictures pf the black 2011 had gas filler door on opposite side

The R Spec is only available in three colors - Black, Grey, and Satin. I was looking forward to getting either the Red or dark Blue this time around as I've only had Black cars since 2002, but so be it. I really want that R Spec. So it will be another Black car. For those of you that can use the USAA buying service, they don't have their pricing posted yet for the 2012s. Hopefully they will in a few days. With USAA you can save some serious coin. You usually get the car below invoice.

What is USAA? Have a link?

Photo of the black 2011 is a reversed photo, like a mirror image. check out the letters and numbers on the tag.

It is an insurance company (auto, home, life, etc) for active or former members of the military. They also offer banking and other financial servicies.

does anyone have insider info on when r-spec is hitting the dealer show rooms? from what I've read here so far only 1 4.6 was spotted and gone before anyone saw it...
