  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2012...

I was waiting on the 2012 information to come out... but since the new 5.0 appears to be a R-Spec model with more aggressive suspension (which I would have liked in my younger days but I was looking to get a comfortable car) it looks like I'm still going with a 4.6. Hopefully the price increase will only affect the 5.0 and the 4.6 will stay around $43,000 MSRP. Might actually be a good time for me to start seeing if I can get a bargain on a 2011 4.6 also...

Did I read correctly that the new 8 speed transmission is going to have paddle shifters from the V-6 thru the R Series?

Wow!

Is the lane departure warning system now standard on all Technology package models?

I would not hold my breath on a 2012 4.6 staying at $43800. In an interview Krafcik stated that there would be a price increase to between $45k and $50k. I am betting a 4.6 with all the new features will be 45k to 46.5k and the 5.0 will come in at 48k to 49k both plus destination. Even at these prices they will be well below current competition in price, size and features. I think this will stabilize used values as some of the depreciation will be the price increases. After all, why pay much for a 2009 when the 2011 cost the same. I also see Hyundai winding down incentives as they seem to be selling all they can make with the lowest per vehicle incentive rate in the industry.

2012 Paddles Shifters??

Some of the press releases indicate that the new 2012 will have Paddle Shifters across the board with all engines.

Has anyone been to the Chicago Auto Show and been able to confirm this?

Paddle shifters don't seem to be included on any of the models, as far as I can tell from the pictures. If you look at the pictures it just looks like they have a manual shift option on the gear shifter, not paddle shifters.

Note, Hyundai states their new eight-speed transmission has "Shifttronic", which I think is a domain-protected name owned by ZF. I suspect that Hyundai is manufacturing this transmission in-house using ZF patents and technology under license from ZF.
Note also, the 2012 V8 does not have direct fuel injection, whereas the R-Spec motor does. What this demonstrates is that the V8 motor is capable of direct injection. At some later date I think it is reasonable to expect to see a 4.6 with direct injection and higher compression producing about 395 hp.

You may be correct on the license issue. Chrysler has a similar arrangement with ZF to manufacture an 8 speed transaxles and transmissions. This must be due to under capacity on the part of ZF. BMW has expanded their use of it. ZF is building a new plant here in SC to make drivetrain parts for the local BMW factory now that all X3, X5 and X6 and M variants are made here and there is talk of bringing 3 series production back to the U.S. plant.

It seems like 2012 Genny doesn't have the BlueLink. This is ridiculous!

I suppose Blue Link won't be ready before they release the Genny. A shame, really - I was really hoping to see it on that model.

I agree, what better car to help introduce blue link to USA than the Genny?

Also, sad to see we still get a washed down version of the KDM. Looking at the high resolution interior pictures of the 2012 I cannot believe not even the R Spec version will have the Sport mode suspension control. I read the R spec will have a "sport" suspension but no word on the option to let the driver select the suspension mode, unless of course they integrated the option through the NAVI screen and center knob and got rid of the suspension mode button next to the shifter, but that is whishful thinking at this moment.

I agree... I think the suspension is tweaked, and that's about it.

The only two things that disappoint me about the 2012 (and R spec) are:

1] The steering wheel - seriously, those cheap buttons make this wheel look 10 years old, and they could have kept the piano black trim on the top of the wheel, to match the center console and shifter, to be honest. I suppose there are options out there, but most of them are very pricey and/or cheap looking. I have to say, I saw some sweet KDM carbon fiber parts that I think would make an R spec stand out...

2] The omission of Blue Link - already discussed above - I would gladly wait an extra month or two if it meant availability of Blue Link. Still.. from the demo I watched, I don't think I would really "miss" any of the features, since I don't have them now. I really only like the remote access stuff anyway. The safety stuff is pretty sweet, but the voice stuff is sort of useless to me (personally).

All in all, and having followed the 2012 model spy shots, early info, etc... there are many more great things that were a surprise than the two letdowns I listed above: the 19" wheels, the upgraded suspension, braking, steering, LDWS, heated rear seat...

Oh. I guess I just found the 3rd thing that disappointed me:

Still no cooled passenger seat. :(

Still... what a crazy combination of looks/performancy/luxury/value!

The steering wheel when driving is very intuitive and from this OWNER does not disappoint.
Since I don;t sit in the passenger seat, I really don;t care about the cooled passenger seat. Rather have the heated steering wheel and massage drivers seat.

Yeah, even Ford has it!

Interesting to note that news releases on R Spec have slowed down quite a bit. No updates available regarding anticipated date for release or pricing. I bet they will wait until after the NY Auto Show.

Going to the Jacob Javits on April 28th.

:)

Cannot WAIT. The R-Spec better be open, that's all I have to say. LOL
