In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Will be installing polished Injen CAI and Borla Cat Back exhaust on 2013 2.0t next week. I will post here with difficulty and results. Does anyone have any advice or hidden gotchas I need to know about? Thanks,

Ok - Installed Injen CAI today. Install was very easy. There was one bolt on the bottom that was a little difficult to get to. Other than that, this install was a breeze. I really like the heat shield that comes with it. This is a well made intake. I also like the way the heat shield forms around the factory ram air. This allows the ram air to blow cooler air behind the heat shield where the filter sits.

Performance improvement is definitely noticable. The sound is very cool. The turbo spool is much more pronounced and you can hear the engine sucking in the air.

I found this one (INJEN SP1387P) brand new on Ebay for $213. In my opinion, this was money well spent.

Installed Borla exhaust today. Not a difficult install. The most difficult thing was removing the bolt at the top where the pipe meets the cat. I couldn't get my 1/2 inch drive ratchet in there, so I had to use my 3/8 drive ratchet. Even with the smaller ratchet I had to man handle the heat shield to get it in position. The shorter handle made it difficult to get enough leverage to break the nut loose. I had to cut a short piece of pipe to use as an extension handle. The install is definitely a two man job. I would deem it nearly impossible to get the exhaust appropriately positioned and tightened down with only one person. Only one person needs to know what they are doing, the other person is just there to hold. My neighbor helped me and he knows very little about car maintenance. With both of us working on this it only took about an hour and a half.

The sound is very nice. Not much louder than factory but has an excellent tone. Performance boost is definitley noticeable. It was a great compliment to the Injen CAI. If you read my previous post, you know that I installed the CAI yesterday. You can now tell the air is flowing even better with the Borla exhaust.

I did alot of searching. The cheapest I found this system was on Jegs. This system is $768 on there. I bought from Jegs. I ordered last Thursday and received today (Tuesday). The next cheapest I found was on ebay for $868.

If you want to be loud - this is not the exhaust for you. If you want a good performance boost with a very nice, low key tone, this is a great system. I was hesitant to go with a high performance exhaust because of the 4 cylinder. I didn't want to sound like a weed eater or a dirt bike. It most definitely does not.

I have seen many people post asking what they can do and get the most for their money. Injen CAI and Borla Cat Back exhaust cost me $980. Installed myself in less than 3 hours total. IMHO, this is a great way to spend under $1k and get a nice sound and performance boost out of a 2.0t. Everything I saw says the CAI gives you about 12 hp and the Borla gives you around 20. Thats 32, but coupled together its supposed to be a little more - Considering the 2013 2.0t starts at 274 that should get you between 300-310 at the flywheel.

I walked off from an early 90s vette last week before I made any changes to the 2.0t - I know those only had around 250hp (I had a '91), but dang - it still outran a vette. Lol.

Feel free to ask questions. I will do what I can to answer.

Nice write up on the exhaust.

I just got mine but went went the upgraded R2C intake in the black chrome.

I'm looking for more power and sound from the car.

I'm surprised that the car isn't much louder with the Borla. Is there another option that increases the sound output? Maybe another muffler choice?

Thanks

GR - sorry for the delayed response.

There are many different options out there for exhaust. Magnaflow is louder than the Borla. I didn't see Magnaflow for less than $1000. I was going for low key. Go to youtube and search for gensis coupe exhaust. There are several videos on there that give you an idea of the sound. You can hear the Borla on there as well. There is a video that is called something like Borla 3.8 vs 2.0t. It shows the Borla on both. That was the video that sold me on the Borla. Like I said - the Borla isn't overly loud, but it has a great sound - it is definitely throatier than factory. And, everyone who has heard mine is very impressed with it. Everyone says they never thought a 4 cylinder could sound that good.

You installed a SRI (Short Ram Intake) not a CAI (Cold Air Intake). IMHO the SRI is a better choice because you can't suck up a puddle with it. I have the same SRI and I love it. I have mine wrapped in exhaust wrap and reflective tape because one thing I noticed is that it gets heat soaked and IAT goes up. The heat shield is a great start, but you can make it better and keep IAT down.

With the aftermarket exhaust the car is transformed. I have a Isis downpipe and test pipe then J2 Engineering catback and it sounds awesome (loud!) The stock Hyundai exhaust is not very well designed (WTF is the deal with that crimp in the mid-pipe!!) and installing a 3" system makes a big difference. The stock muffler is very restrictive too and just dropping that and installing a straight axle-back pipe in it's place can make a world of difference (I did that before I got the full O2-back exhaust).
