Pretty sure the 4.6 is on its way out... but I don't think there have been any official sources yet.
thats what i heard but wasnt sure.
i noticed that many dealers here in so cal now have the 2012 5.0 in a non r spec
other than the wheels and emblem, what's the diff? r spec vs 5.0 non rspec ??
- R-Spec has optional summer tires (in addition to different wheels as you noted).
- R-Spec has different ECU programming and different transmission shift points (but same transmission).
- R-Spec has sport tuned suspension.
- R-Spec has all-Leather steering wheel, 4.6/5.0 has woodgrain (plastic) and leather combo.
- R-Spec has special R-Spec logo floor mats.
- R-Spec has dark-trim headlight insert.
I would test drive them to be sure. You also need to check out the difference in suspension.so the tranny will shift faster in the r spec campared to the non r spec 5.0?
if so, maybe i should get the r spec. too bad it doesnt come in white.

I know some MB do have real wood on the steering wheel, but I would guess that it is some kind of veneer and not solid wood (which would not be strong enough and could be a safety hazard if it broke). I am not sure I would want even a real wood veneer steering wheel, since the finish on the wood could be damaged over time (although I guess if one afford such a car, you don't keep it long enough for that to happen). No worries. I was in denial but can handle reality. Just another reason why my Genesis is not a true premium car. It's a good car for the money. Truth be told, if I had the money to have 2 or 3 cars and employees to take my BMW or Merc to the dealership, I'd own one of those.
I look at those German cars and I come away impressed by the thought and the sheer engineering prowess that went into them. It's amazing.
The 2012 Genesis is what it is but it's not there yet. German cars are not for people who have to stretch to won one.
I still like the Genesis for what I could afford. But I’ve never deluded myself into thinking I have anything that is truly premium. If I could afford more...I wouldn't be on this forum.
German engineering may be in another league when it comes to sophistication, but if it is not reliable, then it sort of defeats the purpose that most people (except the very wealthy) purchase cars for.I'm not bashing the Genesis, guys. I own one and I enjoy it. It's just that I watch all of the video reviews of autos by Brian Cooley on Cnet and the German engineering really is in another league. They are so far ahead in the telematics and ride race, well, there’s just no denying it.
They are turning their cars into superb handling/riding/personal computers. Cool. Oh, and MB E-class finished right behind the Genesis for overall reliability.
Check out Brian Cooley if you can. Imo, he’s really good and unbiased.
The real wood stuff doesn’t bother me. I always thought it looked like plastic anyways. We’re on the same page as to why we all bought Genesis but I’m just saying if I was a millionaire like a couple of my business partners, I’d be driving what they drive….a BMW or MB.
I owned German. Never again. By the way... if you keep the price the same as a loaded Genny... have you actually sat in a C-Class or 3-Series (base)? They do NOT make them like they used to.
You can call it "luxury"... but it isn't.
Let's not kid ourselves. We all care "somewhat" about badges, or else we wouldn't swap out the 'H' for the KDM badges that occasionally invoke comments about a Bentley.I second that! I will never go German again. Simply unreliable. Yes, most handle and drive well, but the price point and fact that you are often left dealing with costly repairs more than offsets the benefits. I wanted a BMW, before buying the Genesis. However after driving both...I felt the Genesis was the overall winner for many reasons. BMW gets you coming and going for half the features and less power. The Genesis is a luxury car. Period! It is quiet, smooth, powerful, and has great fit and finish. I just can't help but feel that some people are still hung up on the badge the car carries. My 2012 Hyundai Genesis V6 puts a smile on my face. Truth be told, the smile grows when I see others who have spent much more on cars with fancy badges, that IMO are much less. 92 out of 100 points is the score from previous Genesis owners on COnsumer Reports. That is the 2nd highets rating of any car reviewed..
