  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2013 JD Power Initial Quality Study

Someone already started a thread on that subject 8 hours ago.

That's cool. I think we all know what a great ride the Genesis is especially for what you pay for them. They are what the Corvette used to be in that you could pay less for a car that put you in direct competition with other vehicles that cost much more and carried more prestige or badge swag. I think the ultimate show of recognition is the how the new Honda Accords look much like a Genny from behind and the side. Of course that is a semi hard argument to up hold as Hyundai mooched off of BMW, Lexis, and Mercedes first........ but still makes ya grin. :D

What with the ever increasing (decreasing?) CAFE standards all the designers are shooting for the very best drag co-efficiency which means most cars are going to look pretty much alike from now on.

I see that the Merc E350 came in second to the Genesis.

I'd have to agree being that I test drove a 2013 E350 two weeks ago and really wasn't that impressed. Especially for the price asked with the options offered. The interior felt a little cramped compared to the Genesis's more open architecture. But the one thing that caught my eye on the E350 was that it had fold down rear seats. An option I wish we had on our cars.

The one I drove had the Premium 1 option which upped the price to almost 4 grand which put it into Equus Signature territory. If you add all but the V8 options on the Merc that the V8 Genny has, you're now in the high 60 to 70 grand territory. and still with a V6. If you opt for the AMG V8 option, you could get a Genesis and an Equus to put in your garage.

Now I'm not knocking the Merc. I love Mercedes cars. But the price for what you get just doesn't add up. And the warranty? Well....that's a no brainer in who wins in that category.

All in all, you get more for your hard earned buck with the Genesis.

That's why I still have mine. :D

The new JD Power surveys about initial quality actually do not measure initial of the vehicles as was done in previous years (this is explained in the other thread that was posted first). It has to do with number of questions/complaints, even when something is not broken, in addition to when there are actually things that are broken (not that often in first year of ownership).

JD Powers says this change is because new cars are a lot more reliable than before and there are not enough "real" problems to report on. So when there is a question on how to use some new technology, or a customer does not like the ergonomics (buttons vs touch screen vs Control knobs, etc) then that now counts as a defect according to JD Power. They say this will help automakers improve the design and ergonomics of the new cars.

Personally, I don't need someone to tell me whether the car is ergonomic or the dash layout is easy to understand. I can figure that out for myself. I do need someone to tell me what will happen mechanically to my car during its first 100,000 miles down the road.

Interesting that Azera is in the Large class and Genesis is in the Midsize class. Huh?

Well, I think it depends on storage space and interior room. Maybe the Azera is slightly larger on the inside?

I believe it is all relative to their own classes.

Genesis is a midsize luxury sedan (compared to Equus = large).
Azera is a large family sedan (compared to Sonata = medium)

Clear as mud yet?

... I do need someone to tell me what will happen mechanically to my car during its first 100,000 miles down the road.

Which is why I find the initial quality assessment by JD Power rather useless as well. I've never found this report to be of much value other than as an advertisement for their firm and the car industry in general.

If you contract with Power, you can have a one car class...I recall the last was sometime in the 80's and it was the two door personal luxury car fwd...the winner was Monte Carlo

I just noticed a few of these around, and I actually had to look twice. There are only a hand-full of Genny's around here.
