2013 R-spec /ios8 and Siri

I'm running ios8 on my iphone 5 and I've turned on the new feature called "hey Siri" on the phone - which means, if the phone is plugged in and you say, "Hey Siri" she will come up and you can ask her a question. So this is where it gets interesting...I have my phone mounted and plugged in using a pro clip holder/charger and when I hit the phone icon on the steering wheel (which brings up the phone menu) and say "Hey Siri" she responds over the bluetooth connection through the speakers. Then I can ask her to play a specific artist or song (or any other command) and she does and it then the car then switches back the the bluetooth audio and I hear the song. It's really pretty slick. Just thought I'd share for those of you with Bluetooth audio and an iphone.

This is working for me in the 2014 R-Spec as well. It's a little clunky, for example the car voice system gives a "bad command" honk and sometimes complains about requiring an auxiliary connection for the accessory.

But by and large as long as it's audio only interaction I've been able to get most siri functions to work by, with iPhone plugged in, hitting the voice button on the steering wheel, say "Hey Siri", wait for the bad command honk from the car, then speak whatever command to Siri. It's worked great. Everything purportedly possible with Siri Eyes Free seems to be working, just a little rough around the edges in terms of usability.

Try it without pushing the voice command button...

"Hey Siri" in my 2012 works cold, without a steering wheel button push. I can be driving along and just say the words. The phone will grab the car's BT and I can speak my wishes. She will read them back to me and do whatever I ask. The only weakness is that it will not switch the car's mode to play music, if I ask siri to play a song. But, if I am already listening to a song and ask siri to play something else, it works like a charm.

On mine it works whatever I am doing. When I say "Hey Siri," the phone connects to the car through the headset profile. The phone initiates the interaction with the car. So, music source does not matter.

However, if I ask Siri to play a voice message, for whatever reason, the voice message plays through the A2DP profile and not the headset profile. So music selection matters there.

This sounds interesting. I'm assuming this will only work if your car has the navigation screen and centered console mounted stereo controls? I do not drive an R-Spec.

Since Hey Siri is initiating the connection through the phone/headset profile, I imagine it would work on all the trim levels. In fact, it may work better on non-Tech cars, since my 2012 Tech does not have Bluetooth streaming.
