2014 Genesis or Not

I am contemplating the purchase of a 2014 Genesis 3.8 at a local dealer with about 600 miles on it. I plan to test drive it within the next day or so. It is advertised as new, so I assume the accumulated miles represent customer test drives.

It is equipped as follows:
- Premium Pkg
- Technology Pkg
- iPod cable
- Mud Guards

The Monroney sticker indicates MSRP $44,950, but is now offered at $34,000. If after test driving I decide to make an offer, what do you think is a fair offer?

Also, should I be concerned about the fluids (oil, transmission, etc), door/window seals, and anything else? I'm guessing with such low miles, the car has sat for a long time.

now 2 MY old. So i would say that fair value may be less than $30K; assume 40% of the MSRP....$27K. Another way to look at this is use KBB or similar, get Private Party value, and add 10% on top for Dealer and New; should come to between $27K and $30K, i would assume.

Yes, have them do a oil/filter change, and full safety check

You don't need a transmission fluid change, as the synthetic transmission is designed to last at least 100K miles. The odds of them screwing up the change (not easy to change on a Hyundai) is higher than any possible problem with the fluid from sitting there.

Some minor rubber seal deterioration may have occurred from being in the sun, but I would just use some vinyl rejuvenator/protector like Armorall on it. Meguiar's makes a headlight/tail light protector to prevent further UV damage to the clear plastic.

Oil is probably OK, but wouldn't hurt to get them to change it.

As for price, I would check some online used car pricing guides, and if lower than their asking price, print it out and take it with you to the dealer. You may not get the same price, because the used car pricing guides are not designed to price demos with only 600 miles, but maybe you can use it to get them to knock off another $1K-$2K.

just goes to show how much u really want the g2 genesis.

the only way id get a g1 is if it was the 5.0, and I got it for dirt cheap. 430 horses or go home.

the g1 is just plain, the g2 screams "come in and drive me". its the gotta have it car.

In the fall of 2014, I was interested in a V6 Genesis. I test drove a new 2014 and a new 2015. After driving both, I would not consider the 2014 at any price. If you really like the 2014, that's a personal thing but don't let a discount from list (not a true reflection of current value) drive your purchase as you will live with your decision for several years.

I took a test drive of the 2014 Genesis this morning. It was quiet, smooth shifting, comfortable, and handled well in the hourlong test drive. When I looked closer, here are some defects that I noticed:

- The trunk would not open unless a key was inserted to unlock. Neither the fob nor the trunk release button on the driver's side door would open the trunk.

- I flipped down the driver's side visor and a few drops of water that had pooled on the mirror dripped down. Looking closer at the vanity light, I noticed a small pool of water on the plastic lens.

- A few cosmetic scratches on the interior driver's side door handle, scratch on centerstack near the P indicator, small cut on the backside of the driver's side head restraint.

Observations:
- I was surprised to see that both the DRL and fog lights are not LED, but incandescent.

- Although it is a new car, the vehicle was put into service in September 2014, so the warranty is already running.

97 months remaining on original 120 months/100K Drivetrain
73 months remaining on original 96 months/80K Emissions
61 months remaining on original 84 months Corrosion
37 months remaining on original 60 months Roadside

Depending on how the repairs go, I may offer approximately $29000 OTD including all-weather mats (cabin/trunk) and wing badge.

I would welcome your thoughts.

I wondered about the car being titled, too. I asked the sales manager and here is his reply...

"When the model year is in the books, the manufacture pays out any incentives on the remaining inventory and reports those units on their sales reports. This starts the warranty clock for those units. That is why you see a consistency in the year or the cars verses remaining warranty."
