If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Is it possible to keep the vehicle in ECO before start? Every time I start up I have to reengage ECO?

Thanks

John

No, it always starts in Normal mode.

Re: 2015 3.8 eco

It becomes second nature and you won't even know your doing it after a while. I start my car then I hit the Autohold and Drive mode buttons as a force of habit now.

I've got almost 1000 miles on my car now. I haven't used eco mode but to just try it out. Does it save much gas? My lexus would stay on and I got 18mpg around the city. in normal mode on the Genesis, i've been getting 15mpg in the city. I only do city driving.

I've taken the car out of town to galveston and out to the country and it gets right at 30mpg on those trips. (on normal mode)

i'm wondering if i can get back up to the 18mpg on eco mode in the city.

I'm a new Genesis owner as of yesterday, and only tried ECO on the freeway after I reached about 40-50 mph.

I've only tried ECO in the city in my previous Infinti Q50, and can only say that it wouldn't work for me because when I step on the gas, it barely went anywhere and I wasn't used to that, so I just stepped on the gas more to get going. I didn't really want to piss off the drivers behind me when I'm driving in the city, so I just drove standard mode, and once I'm on the freeway or stuck in traffic I would switch to ECO.

I'm sure if used correctly though, ECO mode would save you some gas, but I never seen it save me more gas than driving in standard mode since I was definitely using it the wrong way.

Just noting that, as mentioned, it truly does become second nature to turn these features on or off before putting the car in drive and taking off. It just takes a little getting used to at first. Putting your seat belt on is probably the most annoying this we have to do but who really thinks about it anymore? It's just second nature...

I have a 5.0 Ultimate and I drive in both ECO and Sport modes. I drive combined city/highway driving back and forth to work and I consistently get 20-21 MPG (Calculated) which is awesome for a 5.0 with 420hp IMO.

I turn on the Sport mode an on ramps, red lights when I have a hole shot and anywhere else I need the extra power like passing. Don't get me wrong, you still have power in ECO mode, but not like you do with Sport mode.

I (by habit as noted above) start the car and put it in ECO mode. In the morning (4:00am) on the way to work there is no one on the roads so I take US1 (city driving) to work. When I leave work, again it goes into ECO mode and I take misc city roads to the Turnpike. It goes into Sport mode at red lights were needed and before I get on the highway until I get up to speed which by the way, is really fast :D

Hope this answers your question.

Honestly, you don't need ECO mode if you learn a few miserly driving techniques. Normal mode acts like ECO mode if you just drive like you can't use the brakes. This will make you accelerate slower so as not to gain too much speed and have to brake only to speed up again. You will also coast more instead of slowing down too much requiring you to speed up again. The point is to stay off the gas as much as possible.

ECO mode forces you to drive this way by giving you less throttle response but I hate that.

Eco mode on my Lexus not only lowered throttle response, but reduced the fan speed on the a/c and adjusted the steering some.

The reason for my post was when I drove out of the dealer with my new 2013 sonata I pushed the ECO button and it never canceled out the whole 30K miles. I got 28 mpg in town and 38 mph on the Highway. I realize that my Genesis will not match these numbers. But with 5 mpg with greyhound buses 27 is not to bad.

Some ECO modes also shift quickly out of gears to lower RPMs and safe fuel...

This is how the Genesis handles it as well. If you watch the RPM's in all three modes (Snow mode not needed here in Florida) you can really see the difference in all 3 modes.

Yes. It IS a little annoying when the car behind you wants to drive normally. So, like others, I generally only use eco mode when I'm in traffic. The car is shifting gears so quickly that you don't have much torque to move forward...

Agreed. I also use Sport mode when using the Off Ramps on highways as well as I like the suspension setting it gives you under higher speed cornering. What a difference compared to not having it in Sport mode.

First tank of gas, in town driving, 50% eco 20.1 MPG.

You'll get better gas mileage as the car breaks in...

My Genny shifts into the highest possible gear so quickly, I don't see the need for an eco mode. I use the sport mode around town and the regular mode for highway driving.

Now that I have 3000 miles I use ECO mode for driving around town with the AC on. My city mileage is around 25. I did go on a 90 mile roadtrip last Sunday and got 31 MPG there and back per the computer (so 30, really). 95 degrees and windy.

Perfect....

This just blows my mind. I have a 2014 Santa Fe Limited and I know for a fact that it keeps the ECO setting. I just picked up a new to me 2015 Genesis that was built a few months apart in Korea and it doesn't keep the ECO setting. It seems odd to me that a more expensive car and it is more stupid.
