  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2015 3.8 eco Mode

I have a 2015 3.8 AWD Ultimate that holds the "Eco" mode until changed. When I got the car it held "Normal" mode. After a year and half of driving using Eco, it now holds it. Part of transmission "learning"?

Don't be fooled.... The trip computer on all Hyundai's are off by 2-2-1/2 mpg
They all show a postive reading...I speak from experience

I have 2015 3.8 AWD. If i put it in sport mode and use manual shift to shift early as possible will this be similar to eco mode far as saving gas?
Does eco mode start on 2nd gear?

agreed wife's 15 santa fe ultimate stays in eco, 15 genesis have to put into eco every time. mostly highway AWD I am getting 24-26 per tank of gas. if i got highway get about 29.

Honestly, you don't need ECO mode if you learn a few miserly driving techniques. Normal mode acts like ECO mode if you just drive like you can't use the brakes. This will make you accelerate slower so as not to gain too much speed and have to brake only to speed up again. You will also coast more instead of slowing down too much requiring you to speed up again. The point is to stay off the gas as much as possible.

ECO mode forces you to drive this way by giving you less throttle response but I hate that.

I believe ECO mode also adjusts the AWD ratio to save on fuel if you have HTRAC. You cannot get that in Normal mode.

well... on my 18 sport if i put it in eco it will stay in eco after turning it off and on. but not with sport..i wish it would co it with sport.

For the first year I had my 2015 3.8 I drove it almost exclusively in ECO mode. For the next year I just used normal mode.

In ECO mode the first year, on the highway I averaged 28 to 30 MPG. Using normal mode for this last year I was averaging 29 to 31 MPG. I have a spread sheet that I use to track my mileage. For the first year the long term mileage was 23.35 mpg. At the end of the second year the mileage for the two years was at 23.01 mpg. For the first year the lowest mileage per tank was 19.25 and the highest was 30.8 mpg. For the second year, the lowest tank mileage was 18.6 and the highest was 31.23.

Besides driving in Normal mode for the second year I had also removed the magnet from air intake flapper door toward the end of the first year. That certainly seemed to help throttle response in all modes and doesn't appear to have made any significant difference in overall gas mileage.
