  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I was leaving the gas station this morning and I had to cross 4 lanes in a left hand turn. Though I would play a little so I turned off traction control stability control. I was sitting at a dead stop and floored the throttle. Total bog down for probably 2 seconds then she lit up pretty good throwing me into a fishtail across all four lanes and attracting the interest of my local small town police officer:D.

Well......................Don't do dat ;)l

When it stalled I don't mean it took off slow. It totally bogged out and was not moving at all. A little like the hesitation we get when we are driving slow and hit the gas as it down shifts but I was already in first and just sitting there. This is the first time it has happened.

I had that same experience it was not good when it happens in a situation you need to get out of.

In my 5.0 it seems pretty easy to confuse the transmission computer. It appears to take it too long to evaluate all the sensors and get the gear right.

I do notice this doesn't happen in sport mode. Here, its always got a few more revs to work with and it seems to make better choices for aggressive driving, thus eliminating the lag and hunting.

That happens to me all the time when I leave work(small gravel area) or when I leave this one gas station by work. The hesitation is traction control noticing gravel or a weird bump while pulling out. It thinks/knows that one of the rear tires is not perfectly planted so it won't let you go. I must say, this is the first time I have owned a car with such a sensitive traction control system. I tested it before by disabling traction control to see how the car behaves at the same locations and it is totally night and day difference.

I have experienced the same thing a few times and also believe it's related to traction control and/or electronic stability control if you hit a bump or pothole on hard acceleration from a dead stop. As you said - Turn off traction control and ESC and no issue in the same situation.

I've had the problem but only when I "floored" the accelerator from stopped or a very low speed. A little less pressure on the pedal causes the tranny to find a lower gear and take off. As Jimb100 wrote, the stall does not happen in sport mode.

I'd probably leave the ESC always off (it's not really off), if it didn't disable the cruise control at the same time. I couldn't get out of a snowy parking lot one time until I turned it off.

It will still happen in sport mode if Traction Control/ESC senses something is "wrong" (loose gravel, bump, pothole). I was in sport mode a few of the times when it happened to me.

I've never had a stall but I have caught the car flat-footed by rolling out and then stomping the pedal. It's the transmission that causes this..."Are you sure you want to really go fast?" Y/N. The solution is to slap the stick into manual/hold mode.

I'm a little surprised you managed to get a good fishtail going. Even in the extra off mode this car's TCS is still active enough to prevent crazy except in the rain.

It seemed like I really had the car confused. As I said I had the ESC and stability control off and it was in sport mode. Full throttle from dead stop and she just sat there like it was trying to figure out what to do. This was a good two second delay but when she took of it was a very strong launch. It felt like the nanny did kick in and shut me down part way into the fish tail and leveled me back out.
