  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Just purchased this lovely thing certified pre-owned. Best car I've ever owned, and I've had Cadillac, Lexus, Lincoln, Jaguar, Mercedes and Audi.

The only thing is that the dealer appears to have cleaned the interior with something weird-smelling, and I want to reclaim the proper leather smell.

This raises two questions:

1. Is the leather seating in the tech package the real thing or that vinyl-mixed nonsense? The Window sticker (I found the actual sticker online) says "ultra leather seats" as part of the tech package - Does that mean real 100% pure leather?

2. What is the best thing to use to clean and condition the leather and to restore the leather smell?

Thanks for all of the help!

John.

I've always preferred Maquiars or Luxor Leather care products for our vehicles though others will have their own preferences.
In our home we have a complete leather sectional which the manufacturer highly recommended Leather Magic conditioner which I am going to try on our Genny.

Most of the seating area is real leather. There may be some synthetic leather on back of seats, etc (not sure about the 2015+ Genesis).

The leather has some kind of top coating to protect the leather, so not sure if it will smell like real uncoated leather. Lexol makes a leather cleaner and leather conditioner (two separate products), and they also make a single combo cleaner/conditioner (as do other manufacturers).

1. Yes, it is real leather. It used on the seating surface (the points you come into contact). The rest of the areas are vinyl, as it stretches and contracts to keep the leather taut.

2. Several good brands have been mentioned. I've been using Griots will great success. Just make sure to keep the leather vacuumed and free of liquid staining, both of which damage leather.

Thanks for the help! I've also heard of Zaino Z-10. Any thoughts?

Thanks
John.

Yes! Smells great - not much extra shine but clearly conditions and brings the luster of the leather out

Yes! Smells great - not much extra shine but clearly conditions and brings the luster of the leather out. I use Z6, Z10, etc. on my car

I bought the Z-9 and Z-10 ----> WOW! It worked beautifully! The car looks and smells wonderful. Z-9 is not for the dash but for the leather seating surfaces and the door panels, it's perfect. Z-10 is only for the seats and door panel leather inserts (duh). I love the stuff!!
