  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey guys I just bought my Genesis about two weeks ago. I want to delete my back two mufflers and put a straight pipe coming out of the current tips. Is this a good idea? Also has anyone discovered a cold air intake kit for the 2015 5.0 yet?

Not a particularly "good idea". It will "drone" at low rpm, a noise that becomes very annoying in time.
Best exhaust idea I have found (four Genesis owned) is secondary cat removal (Motorsports Authority) and Dynomax VT mufflers in place of the rear mufflers. Don't bother with replacing the central resonator - it works just fine.
As for intake, the new Genesis 5.0 has almost double the filter area of previous Genesis. It is very good, maybe add K&N filters, but don't expect much. There has been some hype about ditching the OEM airbox and substituting a cone filter. Problem with this mod is that the most important (and difficult to fabricate) thing is left out - an airbox which encloses/fences off the cone filter from underhood heat.

The 5.0 with straight pipes will sound absolutely glorious but if you're anything like me, it will get tiring during normal freeway cruising and commuting. There are times when you don't want noise and not having the option to turn it off is an issue. You can either go with electric exhaust cut outs to get the benefits of straight pipes while retaining the OEM exhaust or you can do what I did and replace your mufflers with Dynomax VT's and install a set of secondary cat deletes (I've got the MSA's). It's easy to control noise with the VT's based on throttle input and with cat deletes they strike the right balance between aggressive exhaust note and reasonable exhaust volume. The VT's by themselves were a bit quiet for me (though louder than stock) but the cat deletes really set them off! I'm only deleting the secondary's so the primary's are still doing their job and there is no fuel smell.

Thanks for the suggestion, I might just go ahead and do the straight piping and if I don't like that then I'll probably switch to the dynomaxvts like everyone is suggesting. I'll probably just wait it out to see if cold air intakes ever come out for the 5.0. Thanks again

You wouldn't happen to have a video of your exhaust notes would you? If so it would be greatly appreciated Haha.

Give it a try and see how it goes. I believe an R2C intake is out for the 5.0 based on the threads I've been reading on these forums. I had straight pipes (no mufflers, both cats removed) on my 2011 Genesis Coupe for about 8 months or so but eventually ran into a situation where I had to make several long drives (4 hours round trip) after work over the course of two weeks and the noise was pretty miserable when you're already tired from work with drone filling the cabin (stop and go traffic didn't help). I ended up getting electric exhaust cutouts after that and never looked back.

@dmitrylm I'd really appreciate a video or sound clip of your exhaust setup

It's on the to do list. The car is in the shop getting some body work done but I'll try and get interior/exterior sound clips when the car is out.

I will probably be doing it next month, I have been selling life insurance as an intern before I go back to college so I have had to wait awhile until I made my next sale haha. If everything goes well and my next paycheck is as big as I think it will be, then it should be getting done within the next two or three weeks. I will be sure to post a video of it when it is done. That sounds incredible by the way.

Huddleston, what exactly does installing cut outs entail? Would I have to add something in the interior? Does it give a small boost in power like doing straight pipes in the back would cause?

Best way is to remove secondary cats. Get a pair of test pipes to replace them. Weld your cutouts into the test pipes. You can get them with a wireless remote. Or you can hard wire them.

I just deleted my resonator and mufflers on my 2015 Genesis 5.0 and there was a mustang 5.0 next to mine getting his deleted. Shop said mine sounded way much better than his. Yes driving through suburbs is better, especially with the drone sound, freeway does get annoying(When others hear and want to race, "Sport bikes".) There are options to bring the tone down with re-doing every thing. Looking at some Borla Exhaust tips. I wouldn't recommend deleting your cats though.
