2015 5.0 Transmission Died

Just received a call from Corporate. Long story short, they won't provide any goodwill assistance other than what the independent dealer has offered. The lady stated that it is up to the dealer to decide whether or not to offer that service. I guess it will be $3,700. If this is really the truth, I shall be grateful to the dealer for offering to reduce the price (which includes the diagnostic fee) as they didn't have to discount at all. Now, the decision whether to keep the car or sell it after this remains. Looking at what used cars are selling for now, it appears that I can sell this car for between $1,000-$2,000 more than what I paid for it which will put me into a more reliable car & help recoup some of my repair cost. Decisions....

Unless you buy new, what is more reliable? If you like the car, do you want to take a chance on another? Problems happen with every brand and every model.

Make sure to shop the market right now. Most of my Hyundai contacts are telling me there is almost no negotiation on purchases right now, due to the electronics backlog. One of the best dealers (Freeman) in my area has a lot near empty. You may be forced to hold off on your purchase until later this fall.

The same exact thing happened to me last August 2020 without any warning no warning lights or anything like The transmission just went out and I am in rush-hour traffic on the 405 going north I had to get it towed back to Genesis of Southbay They had it for five days and then told me the car is out of warranty.I was at 70,000+ miles on the odometer and I believe the factory warranty is 60,000 for the second owner so I was 10,000 miles out of the warranty and Hyundai was trying to charge me $6000+ to get it fix luckily for me I got an extended warranty which covered the $6000+ for a new transmission including installment at an independent mechanic shop that was listed on my warranty papers. The crazy thing also they were a couple of other Hyundai Including another 2015 Genesis having their transmission replaced or fixed.

WOW. I am glad I changed my transmission fluid at 76k miles. Hopefully, frequent fluid changes will give the transmission a long life. My old fluid was still red, but it was dirty. I will just drain the transmission fluid every 20k-30k miles to keep the transmission going. Most sealed for life transmissions without fluid exchange services do not live long past 100k miles from any automaker.

I have noticed that a couple 2015+ Genesis with transmission failures complaints on this forum are from second hand owners. I wonder if some previous owners somehow had a transmission flush or some sort of improper transmission service before the current owners received the car that may have caused the premature transmission failures.

Ya, good point; mine is at 98000km (61000 miles) with no problems observed....

When I asked the dealer about it last year they said lifetime fill and no change needed....maybe I'll go back an insist on a change - and then again maybe nothing will happen...

Yeah, lifetime fluid my a.. If you want to keep for car for any length of time, change the fluid. I plan drain and re-fill the transmission fluid at 50,000miles and replace fluid/transmission pan at 100,000miles (trans pan has the filter built in, so you have to replace both...stupid design). NEVER perform a "flush", only drain and fill. I only plan to use Hyundai OE fluid as well.

I just talked to the Hyundai service advisor who stated that there were no codes stored in the computer for this problem. I asked her specifically if there was anything that was stored in the vehicle diagnostics center of the vehicle that could possibly give insight as to what happened. The only thing that I was offered was

When this happened, the engine was running fine. The car bucked terribly like I had been hit pretty hard in the rear. Tires squealed for 1/10 second or so kinda like speed shifting from 2nd to 3rd. After the car locked up, I could put in into gear (acted like it was in neutral when I pressed on the accelerator) but the car wouldn't move forward or reverse even with assistance from me trying to push it off the road even in neutral. When the wrecker arrived, he had to drag the car on the flatbed as it was still siezed up in neutral. When we arrived at the dealership to drop off the car, he had to place oil on the flatbed & jerk the flatbed back & forth to make the car come down. The next day, I went back up there to get my belongings & cranked the car & put into drive. Car just rolled forward like in neutral. It will remain in place if the selector is set to P. Any other gear, & it is free to roll with a push in either direction. Engine accelerates fine without any resistance if the car is in any gear (car remains stationary though). I'm open to questions btw.

Local highly recommended transmission shop quoted $2,800 for a slightly used (325 miles) transmission to replace mine. He mentioned that it's very likely that the cooling system is now contaminated (transmission cooler inside of radiator) & would need to be flushed & pressure tested. He mentioned that this price was much less than the $8000-$9000 that the dealer was gonna charge to replace the trans. I told him what the final price was from the dealer with a new one & he said that I should probably go that route.

I'm being told by the dealership that it is a new one that includes a 12month/12k mile warranty. I will make sure that the receipt at least states it as new. The original cost was $6,000 without any goodwill assistance, & I did specifically verbally make sure that the reduction in price still was to include a new transmission.

I have the same problem, but I am out of USA without any Genesis dealership available. Can you get me in touch with the ones selling rebuilt one and the hyundai if they will just sell the transmission for a reasonable price?
