2015 Better, when 2014 are selling so cheap?

So we know the 2015 is a great car, but now that they are dealing the 2013 & 2014 away, is it $10,000 / $15,000. better?

Of course that makes one wonder, what will they be selling the 2015's for next year?

You are trying to compare two completely different cars. The only thing the 2015 - 2020 (?) has in common with the prior generation is the Genesis name.

If I were purchasing today with the same parameters I had two years ago, I would probably buy the same way again today...

I paid about $35K for a demo 2012 when 2012 was still the current model year. I was comparing it to a used M37 that cost somewhere in the mid $40s, if I remember correctly. The difference in cost for the M37 definitely was not worth it to me then.

Today, a loaded 2015 3.8 RWD price is about 2/3 of the way between a heavily discounted 2014 Genesis and the new Infiniti Q70 or Audi A6. I still think that the 2013 and 2014 win the value battle overall. When price is less of a decision factor, then the 2015 is a killer value and on equal terms with the Infiniti and European mid-sized sedans. It is such a higher price point than the prior Genesis, that I do not picture many people shopping between the two. Someone's budget will make the decision for them.

Get them while they last!

Supply may vary by dealer or region. I do not get the sense that there is an unusual oversupply of new 2013s and 2014 still lingering on the lots around me. They have some, but it seem comparable to what I have seen on lots over the years a few months after a new model was introduced.

Also, there is not a $35K Audi, Lexus, BMW, or MB that compares to the 1st gen Genesis. Sure, they all offer new cars in that range, but they are either are substantially smaller or they are lacking most of the features that someone would want in a premium car. To get to the Genesis price point, you have to shop for a 2-3 year old A6, GS350, 535i, or E350. For many buyers, after sitting in both, they prefer the Genesis and the fact it is new.

That's exactly what happened to me. I was set on a e350 and at the last minute decided to check out the Genesis. ..

You are trying to compare two completely different cars. The only thing the 2015 - 2020 (?) has in common with the prior generation is the Genesis name.

Although the 2015 has a lot of improvements, the engine and transmission are very similar (but not identical) to the 2014. Main difference in the engine is adjustment (probably in ECU) that lowered HP, but raised low-end torque, probably to mitigate the extra weight of the 2015. But reports elsewhere in this forum (in real world head-to-head tests) are that the 2014 R-Spec 5.0 is 1-2 car lengths faster than 2015 5.0 for 0-60 MPH. Similar changes to 3.8 V6 engine (less HP but more low-end torque) for 2015.

Transmission shifting is slightly more responsive in 2015 (again, probably due to computer changes), but it is basically the same 8-speed transmission as 2014.

Only each individual can decide that. Test drive them and decide for yourself. On this forum, a lot of people have scooped up a 2013 or 2014 at big discounts, and others opted for the 2015.

Of course that makes one wonder, what will they be selling the 2015's for next year?

Prices are determined by supply and demand. But since the 2016 is likely to be nearly identical to the 2015, I would not expect a big change in prices (unless there are major changes in the overall economy).

I had a previous generation V8 and a 2015 V8.

Why I believe it is worth the extra money...

1. Far better handling
2. Far better suspension
3. Far better interior quality
4. Far better technology
5. Slightly better looks
6. Slightly better sound system (more power)
7. AWD (in Canada)

To me, the old style looks like a Mercedes. I hate to sound like a second generation snob, but I think the first generation gets lost in the crowd.

Don't get me wrong, the first generation is a great luxury car for the money. My neighbor has one and loves it. I never noticed, until he congratulated me on my new car. I was shocked to discover he was driving a 2013 Genesis.

If you don't care about the body style or technology, go for the first generation.
In fact, why not a used one?

Another thing I prefer about the 2015 is first gear. I had an 09 V8 so I don't know if the later models addressed it but I found first gear way too short. Second gear was awesome but first gear was lacking. The 2015 seems to be better in this regard.

The puddle lights on the exterior mirrors may be new, too. When I approach the vehicle at night, the mirrors fold out and a light projects the Genesis wing logo on the ground.

You can copy multiple songs, but even better, multiple folders simultaneously. The trick is to select list, and go up in your list of tracks or folders so that when you select copy from the Menu button, those items will be there to select. I copied about 1300 tracks about 6 or 8 folders at a time. I didn't do them all at once, because I did them during trips to work and so forth, and never had a single drive period to get them finished in one go.

All Genesis sedans from 2009+ with the Lexicon 14 or 17 speaker system can synthesize surround sound from a stereo source. Surround sound processing for home theater audio systems was the business of Lexicon when Harman International purchased the company.

Unless all of the electronic doodads are worth the extra $10-$15k, the discounted 2013-2014 makes much better sense. At least the catastrophic downward spiral of resale value has been factored into the price. I love the new Genesis but could not convince myself that getting the lower priced V6 would satisfy me and my pristine low mileage 2010 V8 is virtually worthless resale wise. 2010 Audi A4, BMW 3 series and Mercedes C class are bringing higher prices on the used market than similar year used Genesis and they are supposed to be a class below it.
