  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I would like to hear comments from owners of 2015 Genesis regarding the engine/exhaust sound.

During my test drive of the V6, I heard the most pleasing, invigorating sound I had ever heard in a Hyundai as the tach climbed above 4000 RPM. I don't recall the exhaust sound being so loud and badass from the first generation Genesis V6. As funny as this might sound, the main reason I want to upgrade my current Genesis to the 2015 V6 is for this sound. I am so hooked, as my 2011 V8 hardly has any sound.

So, my questions:

Is the 2015 V6 exhaust sound louder than that of the 1st gen V6?

Does the 2015 V8 sound similar to the 2015 V6?

How about some of you V6 & V8 2015 owners post up some videos with some sound? I too would like to hear what the new models sound like. Specially the V8...

I too was surprised when I test drove the 2015 V6. It does not have the sound of an M3, a Maserati, or a Porsche (haha), but it is a much better sound than my 2012 R-Spec.

a canadian auto review site stated that the 2015 V8 sounds better than the V6.

can any one on this site confirm this?
i've only driven the new V6 and thought it sounded awesome.
i can't wait to try the V8.

My 3.8 is quiet in normal use. It does a 'growl' when passing a vehicle on a two lane highway. By the way, the 3.8 gets up and goes when I need to pass or get on a highway ramp. I have owned a 1966 Chevy with the 396 and this car is faster passing than than that old Chevy. From the line it is not really that impressive but I am past burning rubber....the tires cost way too much.

Believe it or not that 1966 396 for all its noise and terror sounds, was only a few HP less than the 2105 Genesis V6. At 325HP, the base 396 would supposedly do 0-60 in 6.5. Those cars also had large rears ratios which made for a lot of action at the start, but would be quickly taken by today's cars once rolling as you experienced.

do you own a 1st gen or 2nd gen V6?

My 2010 4.6 had a sweet growl to it when pushed. My present 2012 5.0 is dead silent. I noticed a slight growl to the 5.0 2015 but not anything like my 4.6. The V6 sounded pretty much like the V8.

I have spent a fair amount of time working the exhaust (Magnaflow, Dynomax) system of the first gen Genesis. I have only seen pictures of the second gen Genesis' underside, but noted to myself that the exhaust systems outwardly appear to be identical with perhaps some differences in pipe bends. Both have identical-appearing secondary cats, central resonator and rear mufflers. That doesn't necessarily mean the component internals are the same. The components may have different part numbers, but that could just be the result of different connecting pipes.

During my initial drive in the V6, I could tell that the exhaust tone was different. I have a 2013 Rspec which is just now starting to get broken in and as it does, it is starting to get a little growl at 8,000 miles, but in general it is very quiet.

I'll re-test the 2015 V8 and report back. I've driven it once, but need to drive it again.
