  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Good Everyone.....

I hope all is well with you all. Have a little dilemma regarding my car and trying to see what direction I should go. Back in May of 2015 I purchased a new Genny 3.8 with the Ultimate package. It’s parisian gray with ivory interior. It’s a good looking car! It’s rides good, quite good on gas, gets a lot of looks, etc.... I was really enjoying this car up until 2 weeks ago where it totaled stalled out on me on a major street here in Dallas, Texas. Every warning light that the had came on. It would power up but couldn’t restart it. Called Hyundai’s roadside assistance and they were very pleasant with getting me help for the car. Had to get it towed to the dealer. The tow truck driver was really nice wasn’t a jerk at all he gets my car to my dealer and calls me to inform me that he dropped it off and all. Now my dealer gets to the diagnosis of this car. They were a full week in and still couldn’t get it started up. So the following week they have a field service technician to come to the dealer and find that the ECM, fuse junction box, and engine wiring harness was shorted out. With a car that is a year and half old and 36,000 miles you wouldn’t expect these issues to happen on a vehicle that has over a $50,000 sticker price on it. So they ordered the necessary parts to do the repairs on it and get a call Friday saying the car was fixed and ready for pick up. So I goes to pick it up Saturday afternoon.... They had all cleaned, waxed, and full of gas. Goes to sign off on the paperwork, gets in the car, gets ready to pull out and damn lights came back on again with the exception it stayed running. I backs up right back in the service department show them what the car has done. They put my car in the service bay and that ECM goes bad. At this point I don’t have faith in the car anymore because 5 minutes before it shut down on me I had just gotten off the interstate and now I can’t leave the dealership and immediately acts up again. I feel like I need to let this car go and have them to try to do a buyback on it. If they don’t do it i’m still gonna part with it. Me and automotive electrical don’t get along... Any thoughts???

No specific thoughts. But I find dealers always telling the customer they found something to cause whatever problem....and it's always wishful thinking and total BS. The ECM didn't go bad. They just think it's the issue and replaced it. Sure enough, the issue returns. Do you really believe the fuse box, major computer and the wiring harness all shorted out....and for no reason? Shorted out means the car would most likely have been completely dead. Do you see where I'm going here? I call total BS. It's not just Hyundai but every car maker out there.

What dealer is performing the repairs? (I live in Dallas too.)

I couldn't stand my 2016 Mercedes C450 even for 6 months, what a POS it was... Genesis is much better car, let them fix it for you.

Can you elaborate on how a car that stalled out on the owner twice (once right out of the dealership service department - didn't they even take the thing for a test drive after performing the supposed repair???) is much better than another random vehicle you have owned?

The fact that the car stalled in traffic once is bad. The fact that it died again right after Hyundai and the dealership supposedly fixed it would rob me of any confidence in that vehicle. Next time it dies it could be on a highway and hit by a semi and kill everyone inside.

Well, this could happen to any car. What next? Get a bicycle? It's also unsafe. Walking on the street is also NOT safe. Life is not safe.
I'd say let them fix it and if they won't be able to fix it then to file a lemon claim with HMA.

I would bet it's a fuel line problem. Previous posts have shown that some of the lines were defective.

I disagree. The fuel line problem reported here were only on the V8's with similar symptoms of sputtering on heavy acceleration. This sounds more electrical.

What was so crazy was. I literally just had gotten off the highway before it completely shutdown on me. And as I was setting out flares this lady liked to had rear ended me and the car. I went to get the car this past Thursday after it was in the shop for 15 days. It seems to run okay but I’m not confident in it anymore...

Awesome. If you want to drive a bit farther, Freeman is very good.
