  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Leaving a shopping center on Wednesday Nov 27, 2019, I back out of my parking space, placed the Genesis in "D" Drive and I did not feel the transmission engage. I pressed accelerator, the car did not go forward and the engine revved up. In addition, after taking my foot off the accelerator, the RPMs continued to climb until I place the car back in Park.

1. Transmission will not engage when in D 'Drive"
2. Reverse is working as advertised
3. After pressing then releasing accelerator in D position, the RPMs continue to climb settling in at about 2,500 even though the accelerator is no longer being pressed.

I repeated placing the car in Park and drive with no success
I attempted manual shifting with no success
I shut the car completely off and repeated the above steps several times with no success

The vehicle is currently at the dealer being diagnosed. Updates to come...

****Update****

I was contacted by the service department and they are REPLACING THE TRANSMISSION with a new one. It will take about a week to get one in.

Holy crap. How much is that going to run?

Well that stinks big time! Do you have warranty?

I experienced a similar issue on my 5.0 a couple weeks ago. I assumed it was because I hadn't come to a complete stop before shifting from R into D. After turning the car off for a few minutes and clearing the CEL, everything seems okay 🤞

I have a 2015 Genesis a little over 3 1/2 years old - 19K miles and last night when driving about 40 miles an hour I heard this huge engine revved up sound and thought the car behind me was trying to make a pass - immediately checked the rear view mirror and he was behind me and no one was trying to pass, then all of a sudden I heard a huge bang and it jerked the car, threw my head back and I would have sworn someone ran into the back of the car, then it seemed to right itself and drove fine. First time that happened I actually pulled off the road to see if there was damage to the rear end. Since I've owned the car, it has happened maybe 4 times but always seemed to right itself and drive fine. Could that be the transmission? Should I get it checked? I'm also having major problems with failing batteries. I'm on my 6th one right now and Hyundai has done nothing in the way of finding out why. Could it be the transmission all this time?

Maybe you have electrical problem? 6 batteries? Something does not sound right.

Given how much is controlled by computer I have to wonder if the transmission fault was caused by some electrical problem that is also killing your battery. Beyond my expertise but could be worth questioning it.

What is the CEL and how do I clear it? I am have the exact same issues...

So you think that could do that? Cause switching for r to d wont do it right away. According to me and what is a cel
