  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Similar to the thread on the HPP Extended Warranty thread, I'm curious to see what people have been opting for and paying for any sort of maintenance plan, especially since I apparently paid WAY too much for my extended warranty.

Based on the other thread, I wouldn't say you paid "way too much." Maybe a little too much for the extended warranty.

Are there any Hyundai maintenance plans, or are they offered by your dealer?

A little too much? I paid $1000 more than some folks. To me, that's a lot of money. My dealer wanted to sell me on a couple of plans, one for tire/wheel hazards, and some other plan for maint, but the only thing that I was interested in was the extended warranty. But after reading the "Owners Handbook & Warranty Information" booklet that came with the huge stack of literature that came with these cars, and reading that you may have to prove that you've completed maintenance for them to honor your warranty, I've suddenly become interested in a maintenance plan as well.

Sorry, I must have confused you with someone else regarding what you paid.

Regarding regular warranty, it is not that hard to prove you have had the service, receipts will suffice. Your rights to use someone other than a dealer is protected by specific anti-trust laws and the Federal Trade Commission. Also, even if you could not prove you did all service, it must relate to the problem. For example, if you don't replace a cabin filter they can't say that caused a problem with the engine.

The extended warranty "may" require you to have all service done at a dealership, I am not sure (read the fine print). I believe that they are allowed to make that a condition of the extended warranty.

To the best of my knowledge, nobody here has ever mentioned owning, or wanting to buy a maintenance plan for a Hyundai. Your dealer may be whistling a tune called "There's a sucka born every minute."

Depends on what is included and how much it costs. The idea of pre-paid maintenance for scheduled items like oil changes, filter changes, etc is not necessary a rip-off, but we don't know in this case until OP tells us the cost and what is covered.

Good luck with that.

I'll see if I can get some more details about my dealers maintenance plan, since I have to go back to the dealer again anyhow to try to either get some money refunded for the extended warranty, or cancel it altogether.

I went to the dealership yesterday, but the finance guy that I worked with was gone already, and the other finance guy didn't want to cancel my extended warranty and was really pushing me to talk to the original finance guy that I worked with when buying the vehicle.

I see they are offering something called a 24 month test drive. This also includes all maintenance and a bunch of other things. This is in Canada however it may show up in the US. Basically a 2 year lease with everything included. https://www.hyundaicanada.com/Genes....aspx?gclid=CMqS14SZw78CFbRj7AodUXYAng#retail
HMA is conducting a survey on Hyundai Think Tank about what customers think about the value of free scheduled maintenance for 24 or 36 months. . Seems to me that only a few oil changes, and maybe one air filter and cabin air filter, would be done in that short period, so not worth very much to me.

They claim this is worth $700 as it does include all the inspections free of charge including brake cleaning.

Another feature they offer is normal wear items like tires, brakes, wipers, windshield, stone chips etc which are also all covered for 24 months. Sounds like a good through package if you ask me.

I have never had anything done on any new car purchased since 1986 that needed more than oil changes and air filter changes during first 24 months. Before fuel injection and platinum spark plugs, tune-ups were needed within 2 years, but those are obsolete.

  • Inspections - Dealers do those for free anyway when car is in shop, because they are looking for more service revenue. Besides, very unlikely to find a problem in 24 months.
  • Brake cleaning - Car wash
  • Brake pads - Extremely unlikely to wear out in 24 months
  • Tires - Already warranted by tire manufacturer for first 1 year
  • Wipers - Most wipers last beyond 24 months, especially in areas where sunlight is not very intense like Canada.
  • Stone Chips - Cost about $25 to repair them, and many insurance companies pay to fix them on windshield at no charge to insured.
  • $700 value - I would estimate Hyundai Canada pays dealers about $100 to perform the work for this package in first 24 moths. That is all it is worth. $700 is complete crock.
