2015 Genesis Pricing

My negotiations on a new 2015 (ordered and being shipped) rendered a price after applicable discounts of $338.00 below invoice. So I would say that knowing the invoice which one of our forum members provided on a different thread is key to knowledgeable negotiating.

My Hyundai dealer said they are unable to order cars with specific trim/color combinations and that their stock is just allocated by corporate. Was I mislead?
 
Ernie would you say that if the dealers are saying the prices are non negotiable that they are lying? Or is there some truth right now while supplies are limited?

As a sales consultant here at a local Hyundai dealer, you were not mislead...corporate sends vehicles out to each dealership at random..what we get is what we get.
 
There are posts where members mention their car has been ordered or shipped. Are they ordering cars that were already allocated to the dealer? If I wanted a particular exterior color, interior color, and trim level, can a dealer find one that matches my criteria in their upcoming allocation of cars and reserve it?

If a dealer knows which cars they are getting, they can reserve it for you, if you sign a sales agreement (they also may want a deposit). Dealers can also trade cars with other dealers, although that will probably not be easy to do until supply frees up. Dealers cannot order a car direct from the factory, and the importer (HMA) has to order them months in advance of when they show up at dealer lots. If enough dealers request specific colors/trim levels from HMA that they don't have enough of, it takes a while for HMA to adjust their factory orders to meet market demand, partly because of how long the shipping and importing process takes. In some cases they may be limited by the type of components they have to order from suppliers for specific features on the cars.

My strategy was first to elicit the assistance of a couple of buying services TrueCar.com and Cars Direct. I received certificates from them with target prices and dealers willing to deal at said prices. Cars Direct was the better choice as a so called specialist is assigned to assist in the search for the car. Since the search did not bear any fruit as the dealers associated with the service didn't have the car configured as I wanted it I went off on my own searching the internet for the car I wanted and not restricted any dealers. I did have one key piece of negotiation and that was the price agreed on by dealers of the buying service. I used that at the dealers I then visited. Don’t know about other locations and dealers but I’ve been to 5 different Hyundai dealers around my area though a couple had the car configured the way I wanted it the color was wrong. They all offered to order the car but said the wait would be considerable. They didn’t say if they could or could not order specific configurations to be made. Though they were able to see what was built and allocated for them. They did that while I was there and offered alternatives according to that report. That’s why I ordered the car from a particular dealer as a car fitting my requirements was just built the day before and allocated to them. Don’t know about you but it seems unlikely to me that a business like a car dealership wouldn’t know what’s being shipped to them. Well it’s not that way here anyway.

I am not sure what that means? Anyone can say a price is non-negotiable, and they can stick to that, or they can change their minds. It's up to each individual dealer, and obviously the situation can change daily. Generally, it appears that most dealers right now are trying to get at least MSRP while supplies are tight. Some may take a little less, and some may demand more. It also depends on what color and trim level it is, as some are in higher demand than others.

I suspect that most dealers who added a market price adjustment of several thousand dollars over MSRP are likely to take MSRP if you negotiate with them. One reason for adding the market price adjustment on top of the MSRP price is so that the buyer will feel like they got a good deal if they pay MSRP (which doesn't happen very often for a Hyundai). But it will vary by trim level and color.

Also, there are some HMA discounts (like loyalty, military, etc) that slightly reduce the price and don't come out of the dealer's pockets.

None of the dealers in my area (houston) with the exception of one that I've talked to so far are adding a market adjustment to the car. They are just holding firm at msrp. So I just take that to mean that it's a sellers market right now due to supply limitations. I'll look into the car buying services like true car to see if any in my area are willing to sell at those prices. We shall see soon.


I don't qualify for any of the HMA discounts so I'm relying strictly on negation here.

I think some dealers will add a market adjustment and then allow you to negotiate the price down to MSRP, and others are straight shooters and tell you the price is MSRP and they can't lower it right now.
 
I'm looking to buy a 2015 Genesis with the Signature package. Here is an advertised Genesis of the type I want. What is a good price for the Signature package?

Being as they are just hitting the market, and not even sure they're available for resale, I'd guess the first few hundred would go for way less than the rest of them. They'd want to get some out on the streets for every one to see and come flocking into the dealerships wanting one too.

My best guesstimate would be in the high $20K

One dealer had 17 coming in and 7 taken already. I asked one what they were asking over MSRP and one dealer answered $1590.
I'm starting to get discouraged.

I wouldn't have asked the question that way, but it probably won't make any difference until supply and demand come into balance.

The reason I couldn’t drive home the configured car I wanted at the dealer was the sales manager wouldn’t sell it. It was exactly the car I was looking for. He said the car was more valuable to him on display. It was with that car he had 5 orders (different color combinations) and 4 undecided. Just that day another one had been delivered with a lesser package option but a very desirable color scheme Black with Black interior. (Tech package AWD) Which was spoken for. During my negotiations never was there any talk of above MSRP on the contrary what was spoken of was the applicable incentives. Which might seem to some as minimal but significant to me depending on where the sale price starts. Read my prior post and see if it works for you.

What are you expecting to pay? You probably could negotiate close to MSRP right now for a 2015, even if they are asking more. But you are not going to get close to the normal discounting (about $3K off MSRP) done on previous models for several months (this does not include any HMA discounts for military, loyalty, etc). Obviously, the $8K discounts available on remaining 2014 Genesis stock is an unusual exception which is being subsidized by HMA.

Just to clarify this, what he means by "corporate" is HMA (Hyundai Motor America) and not Hyundai Korea or the factory. HMA is the USA importer and distributor and that is who the dealers buy the cars from. Obviously, HMA is owned by Hyundai Korea, but they operate as a separate company to do importing, distribution, warranty, parts, etc for USA dealers.
 
As soon as I spoke about the dealers not adding to msrp they send me a truecar quote showing 400 off msrp for 49550 then add a 1995.00 hyundai care pack as dealer installed options for a total of 51445.00 out the door before tax title and fees lmao no thank you. This was south loop hyundai
 
Right now, to my knowledge, no dealers within a considerable distance from me do not have what I want. A 2015 Genesis , color Casablanca white or Caspian black and with the signature package.
So if I go to one of the dealers what can I expect other than them trying to sell me something I don't want or taking my order with me waiting for the car to be delivered from Korea?
