  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'm picking up my first Genesis Sedan this evening. It's a 3.8 AWD base model, so it doesn't have the HIDs (Would've gotten a model with the HIDs, but a sunroof takes away headroom and I don't fit). What is the process of converting to HIDs or LEDs? Are the headlamp assemblies on both the same? They're both projectors it seems, but looking at the parts diagram, it looks like the HID projectors are slightly different.

Good day! This question can be answered by searching the forum on HID or LED setups and also checking out your manual to see the bulb size. I would recommend getting familiar with lighting from HIDPLANET. I started with lighting in my vehicles in 2004. That is where I learned alot before I dumped $$$ on nonsense.

Good luck!

HIDs usually involve adding a ballast, but if you go with LEDs (plug and play), the high powered ones are about as good, light up faster but heat up at the back so they generally need passive (heatsink) or active (fan+heatsink) cooling which means they may not fit everywhere. You can also just get white halogen lights which will look the same as long as they're in HID housings like the low beam ones all the Genesis sedans come with.

i cant seem to find 2nd generation genesis HID or LED DIY. All i can find is for 1st generation. looks like driver side will be easy but passenger side there are intake/intake box in the way.
do i need to take front bumper off?

Looking to do the same thing. Not many answers on here.
Regarding the lighting it’s funny all those ultimate owners wanting the base Led turn signals. At least we have those and not those horrible regular amber turn signals.

Was this ever answered? I’m having the same issue.
