  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello everyone, recently purchased a 15' Hyundai Genesis with the 5.0 v8. Purchased the vehicle with 51,740 miles on it at Carvana, we have performed one oil change on the car around 54,800 miles with Mobil 1 Full Synthetic w/ Hyundai oil filter (did not believe Carvana changed the oil). Oil was checked after first oil change and was correct, right on the money. Just checked the oil 59,500 miles and its on the low side, close to a qt low.

Has anyone had similar issues with their vehicle?

Does anybody know Hyundai's warranty on powertrain for the (2nd) owner?

You used a quart in 5,000 miles? That is considered acceptable. If you ask the dealer they will probably tell you a quart per thousand is acceptable.

Warranty, is reduced to 5/60 for second owner unless you have an extended warranty.

Owner maintenance schedule
When you stop for fuel:
• Check the engine oil level.
• Check coolant level in the engine
coolant reservoir.
• Check the windshield washer fluid
level.
• Check for low or under-inflated
tires.

What kind of oil do you use? @Kraig Wilkinson
The dealer I take it to uses full synthetic Quakerstate? Or the Valvoline? Whatever the sticker under the hood says that the car comes filled with from factory. And EdP is correct about oil consumption. Chevy say 1 quart in a 1000 miles is ok. 1 quart in 5000 is acceptable also. Nothing really to be concerned about IMO.

Ed, I am not trying to change the subject but could you tell me how to
"• Check the windshield washer fluid level. " in my 2018 G80 3.8 Base.
The only way I have found is to just fill it to the top, then I know it is full.

Isn't there a yellow stick style bobber in the reservoir?

My 5.0 does not consume oil at all. Bought with 71,500 miles now at 76,500 miles. No evidence of oil consumption at all. Will have the oil changed shortly.

Contrast that to my 2.8L A4 and Passat, which consumed about a quart every thousand miles!

My 2015 5.0 engine does not have any noticeable oil consumption.

My 15 5.0 uses no appreciable oil either between changes. Now with 72000Km (40000 miles) and usually fill it with Mobile 1 synthetic but have also used Royal Purple synthetic with no difference.

Mine also consumes oil. As a point of reference, after an oil change, the dipstick shows full but by the end of oil change it is towards the 1/4th mark. Not sure how much this is...from F to L on dipstick would be a quart?

Yes I believe you are correct. Most manufacturers have it that way!

I consume about 2 qts per 10k. You don't have an issue until you reach 1qt per 1k. I think our dipsticks are worth 2qt from high to low, considering the entire pan holds 8qt.

The Tau doesn't have oil consumption issues normally. (cough excluding 2012 cough)
But if you want to minimize consumption, install a catch can on the PCV.

....
I don't know, but that seems a lil excessive for a car with only 54k on it.

I've only had one car in my lifetime - maybe 15 cars - that used any oil between changes, and that oil dripped under the car.

OP, can you see any oil residue, anywhere?

Based on what? Every car maker will tell you a quart a thousand is normal and I'd agree that is excessive today. I've had cars that used a quart at 5000. I can find a lot of information that would say that is normal, nothing saying it is a problem.
