  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2015 Starting Issues

If it is cranking, it is not the starter. All that does is turn the engine. How many miles on the spark plugs? Could be other ignition problems too.
Update: My 2015 3.8 sedan will not start. Even if I try to jump it. The electronics come on. It’s not cranking. I replaced the spark plugs. Not sure if I should tow to dealer or local mechanic

Local shop is probably cheaper

I have a similar problem with my 2015 3.8. Intermittently, it won't start when the Start button is pushed. When this problem first occurred about a month back, the instrument panel would light up and the status light on the Start button would indicate "ON". As if the electronics were of the opinion that the car was running. A second push of the Start button resulted in complete darkness. No current flowing to any device, including the LED status lights on the dashboard. I left the trunk open at shutdown -- so as to access the battery -- and induced another failed start to what I call the darkness stage. At that point I measured 12.6V at the battery but less than 3V at the charging posts in engine compartment. I've checked and re-connected the major grounding cables in both the trunk and engine compartment, so it appears to be something along the positive line between the battery and charging posts in the engine compartment. At the moment the car is in the darkness stage in the garage. The plan is to take it to the dealership if I can get it jump started. Once it is started, it runs fine and I get 14V off the alternator in both the trunk and engine compartment. I'll post results. I'm fearful of what could happen at the dealership ($$$). I should mention that the starter relay was replaced a couple of months back under a manufacturer's recall. I'm very suspicious of the replacement part.

Any further activity you can share, Tiger? I'm having similar problems with my 2015 3.8 This happened several times several years ago, then stopped. Then a couple of times six months ago, then stopped. Now, it's been giving me trouble about once every four starts. Sometimes the fix is starting in neutral, sometimes not. Can't be trusted. Seems like this issue has plagued many on this thread. In one case inhibitor switch replacement fixes it, in others that doesn't fix it. One contributor says replacing the starter fixed it (no recurrence in a month) and another says replacing started didn't fix it. Seems like maybe there are several scenarios causing the same symptoms.
