  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a 2012 RSpec Genesis which has the GDi V8. I was told that this V8 engine usually fail at around 75,000-100,000 miles. Is it possible to swap in the Tau GDi V8 from a 2016 Genesis?

You were told wrong. Keep oil changed, use OEM oil filters. There are many of those engines lasting past 200,000 miles. I know one friend of mine that has a 2012 R-Spec that is over 225,000 miles and still going strong.

some rspecs from that year are known to burn oil but not just fail at 100k, keep it full of oil and it'll be fine for a long time

nope, these motors are bullet proof.

I hope you are right because I read about the oil burning issue in a Jalopnik article. How many people do you know of that have over 200,000 miles on their 2012 Genesis Rspec? I use Mobil -1 fill synthetic and K&N oil filter

dont believe everything you read. this does not happen to every Genesis 5.0 Rspec if it did it would of been a recall.

My car burns a lot of oil. I need to confirm how much after 1000 miles.

that sucks, bring it in the dealer and have them replace the rings.

or just top it off , how many miles do you have?

You should only use Hyundai oil filters and try using 5w30 synthetic oil unless temps are below zero.

or even put a 10w30

Just keep the oil full and you'll be good.

I made the mistake of thinking I was good to go and not checking my oil. My r spec was one of the rare affected engines.

A 2015 GDi is real similar in almost all part numbers. When I changed out my engine, I just went with another 12-14 engine, as the 15 didnt have enough exactly the same for me to gamble on.

My 2012 RSpec 5.0 has 140,000 miles and still running like the day I got it 6yrs ago. It does burn oil, but I noticed that a couple years after I got it.
