  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2015 Trim Differences

In the navigation screen, just push the button to bring up the menu. Then scroll to POI, then Hotels. It brings them up and you can then select "along route". It lists them by distance so you can pick one a few minutes or an hour along the way. Push the button and you can call them and then you can add it as a way point.

No need to touch the screen or look at your phone. All done with right hand and minimal eyes off the road.
Only problem is that one can usually get much better hotel prices online at sites like Priceline.

Thanks. But it seems like a lot of steps. I just tried simulated that on the AA app on the phone.
"Okay Google... Navigate to Florida"
"Okay Google... Show hotels along the route"

This is the screenshot. All IMHO, with less distraction.

Also, I suspect that Google can find you the best rate at those hotels.

I'm not sure about that. I think Google already got in trouble with regulators doing this (for flights I believe). But AA does leave the possibility of Gas Buddy, Priceline, Hotels.com to integrate that in the future. This is why I was willing to give up HUD (which I think is an absolutely terrific feature) for AA. The built-in navigation is already stale by the time you pick up the car and probably even when you install an update. But even if they weren't, they simply can't keep up with the speed of changes on the smartphones. Not to mention, that there could be some crazy innovative app that no one's even thought about.

About 5 years ago, I used to use an app on Android which used the phone's camera to warn you if you were driving too close behind a car, speeding etc. Stuff which all these smart cars now provide. I'm not sure that I see anything other than Waze right now as a killer AA app. But that can easily change.

I am not sure what you mean. Here is info from Google Hotels:

"Hotel prices come from Google's partners who use a service called the Hotel Prices Application Programming Interface (API). Learn about the steps and ongoing tasks that partners take to send prices to Google.
Sometimes our partners offer special lower prices that aren't available to everyone. For example, a price might be available only to people who are signed in to their Google Account or on a mobile device. To find out if the prices listed aren't offered to everyone, select Information"
Even if Google does not directly book the hotel, they can electronically refer you to a booking site. I am pretty confident that on average, hotels booked online are going to be less expensive than if you call the hotel directly and show up in an hour or so. Even if you call the hotel chain reservation number, many hotel chains offer discounted rated online, as opposed to a voice reservation with a live reservation agent.

Not to even mention that some online sites have their own discounted rates, where they buy up excess inventory at highly discounted rates, and resell the rooms it at their own rates (like Priceline). Travelers can often save a lot of money for last minute deals at such websites.

I was referring to this. I don't know how/whether this impacted their Search engine results or whether the EU is still looking to it as this site suggests. But I'd imagine that embedded right into Maps may be considered even more preferential and hence invite even more scrutiny. I have never personally used the hotels from Maps. But I use Gas Stations all the time from Waze.

I think those concerns were about Google Search results and advertising, where they have a monopoly. But so far, the US government apparently not much of anything to restrict them yet. As you mention, Google Maps is a separate product.

The EU uses any excuse they can find to extort money from profitable US companies like Google, Apple, Microsoft, and they regularly fine them billions of dollars. The EU is basically an organized crime syndicate when it comes to American businesses.

According to this quote from the article you linked to, Google is already doing a big business in reservations (including air):

The Wall Street Journal editorial cited a Skift Research article in June about the estimated size of Google’s travel business. “The search giant’s travel business is worth $100 billion and will generate $14 billion in revenue this year, according to Skift Research,” the Wall Street Journal said.

Down here in Texas, the 5.0 is my choice hands down. However, you're in PA. Ya get snow. I'd look for a 3.8 HTRAC.

With the ultimate, you get the heads up display. A nice feature, but it's all redundant info. If you go a trim level lower, you get Apple Car Play/Android Auto. You give those up with the ultimate. Makes no sense, but that's the way Hyundai did it.

Yeah I know. I wish the 5.0s came with awd. That's why I also have a Rogue with awd.

I'll look this up but do the 5.0s have apple car play? Does that mean it can send and receive voice mail? My 2012 4.6 is not interactive at all. Its nice but it doesn't update. I'm thinking just like the Rogue I'd have to get a new chip or something.

I think I would go with the 5.0 for several reasons:

1) gas is fairly cheap, and has been for a number of years, and with improved extraction technology, it looks like it will continue to be cheap for a while. And since I drive the car less than 10k miles per year, I really wouldn't be spending that much in gas over the 3.8 (unless I had my foot buried in the carpet constantly).

2) the V8 is just soooooo smooth

3) I like the quad exhaust tips better than the trapezoids

For me, the CDC isn't all, that important since I don't drive like the Dukes of Hazzard on a regular basis.

"CDC is an electronic damping system that noticeably increases driving safety, comfort, and dynamics by adjusting damping forces optimally for each individual wheel."

Check it:
Continuous Damping Control - Wikipedia

Right now should be a good time to find '15s since people w/ 3 year leases are turning them in. You may have to travel a bit, but availability should increase during the summer as those leases are turned in.
That is a great tip about the3 year leases. I've never leased. When do you think that may really start to kick in? Hmm,, I wonder if I should contact the local dealers about giving me a heads up?

Unfortunately, the 5.0 is the Ultimate trim. Which means you don't get CP/AA. But a lot of folks seem to manage with Siri eyes free on their Ultimates.

If you lease a new vehicle, the 2018 models all have CP/AA including the Ultimates.

As documented earlier in this thread, in 2015 there was a 5.0 Base Trim with the 14-speaker system, and a separate 5.0 Ultimate Trim with 17-speaker system (and other stuff). That is relevant because the title of this thread is "2105 Trim Differences."

Oh really? I didn't know that. All the 5.0s that I saw had Ultimate. Good to know.

I believe the new 5.0 only come top trim ultimate. The earlier years came in two trim levels, ultimate & tech. Ultimate had the upgraded rear suspension, 17 speaker vs 14 speaker sound system. Ultimate had HUD, tech did not. Tech had Apple Car Play & Android Auto, ultimate did not. Ultimate had the larger head unit screen & the center control knob. There may have been other differences, but I don't know what they were. If I recall correctly, in 2017 the 5.0 lost the rear window shade.

Only for model year 2015. After that there was only one 5.0 and it was basically an Ultimate. I am only speaking about the USA, as Trim Levels in other countries may differ.

Note that in 2016 there was only one 5.0 trim level, but there were only a small number of 5.0 models produced early in the model year for the USA market, and then they stopped making them and removed them from the Hyundai USA website.

So I bought a '15 Ultimate 3.8 HTRAC. After having it for 5 months, here are my impressions:
  1. I really wish I had chosen a Tech Package instead of the Ultimate. I downplayed the loss of Android Auto in exchange for the HUD and the DIS system. In practical daily usage though, I listen to streaming media from my phone almost exclusively. Couple that with not really wanting to pay $27 a month for the full fledged BlueLink service (since I can do 90% of that from my phone), I'm finding that I really wish that I had Android Auto.
  2. I am SUPER happy that I opted not to go with the 5.0. My dealer had mine for a radio issue for a few days, and gave me a 5.0 Ultimate G80 as a loaner. I was surprised how little a difference the 5.0 seemed to make in my daily drive (75% HWY, 25% city), and the fuel economy wasn't great. After spending some time with it, I don't think the 5.0 is worth the additional front end cost, and the additional ongoing cost in fuel economy
  3. I'm also really happy that I got the HTRAC. If I'm running in Econ driving mode, I'm averaging about 28MPG on my highway driving, so the HTRAC system doesn't seem to have much of a penalty vs RWD. I'm glad I have the added capability.
  4. I wish the 3.8 (any model) came with the LED Fog lights in '15. It doesn't. The 5.0 Ultimate does, but doesn't have HTRAC. So if you get a 15, you'll have to make a choice.
  5. Smart Trunk is awesome. Awesome!
Hope that helps.

I'm still trying to find the right Genesis. Learned that the local VW dealership had an Ibiza Blue 5.0, I figured I'd take a look. Got there late in the day, and did a test drive. I have to say that the color looked really nice in the early evening light. I'll pop back over tomorrow afternoon. However, I'm not interested in the 5.0. From what I've read, there's not much practical difference between the v6 and the V8, but the V8 has pretty mediocre gas mileage. They said they'd give me a "really good deal" on it, although their list price is $30k, and it seems like a 3.8 tech package (which is what I'm looking for) is going to be about $25k. I suppose if they REALLY cut the price, I'd take it. At about 12,000 miles a year, I think the 5.0 would cost me about $100/year more in gas. Insurance would probably be a bit more as well.

Any thoughts? (I'm going to keep hijacking threads until someone tells me where to get the car I want for under $500 :p)

If it is a REALLY good deal, that $100 will take 20 years to overcome the up front savings. I'd ignore the fact it has the V8 and base my decision on everything else.

If a white car starts to fade does it fade to white?
