  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I bought the Genesis September of 2019, 10 months ago. Now the clearcoat is peeling. I, unfortunately, paid 2k for cilajet. I thought that's why I bought cilajet, at least that's how it was sold to me. Cilajet won't repair the clearcoat, nor will Hyundai. What a rip off!
Has anyone else had this problem? Is it an expensive fix?
Thank you,
Patty K. 9

I'm sure Hyundai is going to blame Cilajet and they will blame Hyundai. Do you have a warranty in writing? That is what matters. For the money you paid there should be a warranty.
The fix is probably not cheap but you don't indicate if it is a tiny spot or whole panel.
Sounds like a case for Judge Judy.

Thank you for your reply. I'm going to speak to an attorney,... I'm furious! And ironically, I traded in my 2006 BMW 750 for the Genesis because it needed a paint job.!

You may want to get an opinion and estimate in writing from a good paint shop. That may help point you in the right direction.

Same problem with my 2016 Genesis. I purchased it in June 2020, but it wasn't until the fall of 2021 that I noticed the clear coat peeling in areas along the front panels. Unfortunately the warranty only covers up until 30K or 35k miles, which is past that now. Only recommendation is to take to collision shop.

My 2015 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 AWD sedan, Casablanca White (pearl) has peeling paint on the bumpers, worse on the rear, since about 2021. Tried to fix myself, held up a while and now failing again. About $2300 for professional repair to pain both front and rear, and a small crack in the front.
