  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2016 Genesis 5.0 Ultimate

My last tank (yesterday) was 18.72 mpg, the trip computer showed 22.4 mpg for the tank - it reset after the fill-up and right now shows 23.7 mpg for the 70 miles since the last full-up. If I remember correctly, the trip computer resets the mpg counter each time the car is filled up.

We have up to 10% ethanol here in TX, which negatively influences gas mileage, but the trip computer should register that I guess.

Mid-grade costs 30 cents more per gallon here (premium is 65 cents more than regular), so at $1.90/gallon I would have to improve fuel efficiency by over 15% with mid-grade, or over 35% with premium to break even. Not sure that's achievable but I will give it a shot. I'll report back once I have done some testing.

And to the OP, sorry to hijack the thread with fuel efficiency talk - that probably doesn't matter much if you are considering the V8 ;)

Here in Miami we have 10% Ethanol too plus the heavy traffic I usually get 16 MPG during a regular driving day with 50/50 speedway/city trip. Premium gas is 60-70 cents per gallon higher than Regular.
You can change the MPG Auto reset feature on the User Settings menu on the LCD display plus you can reset manually at any time by pressing OK button for more than one second.

Yes, it resets after fill-up, but you should be able to reset it manually also.
On the 2G (topic of this "section" of the forum), that is only true if you set it up to auto reset after every fill - not sure what it defaults to with a new vehicle, but it can be turned on/off in the menus.

On the 1G, you hold down the reset button for several seconds until it resets.
On the 2G Ultimate you push in and hold the right scroll wheel on the steering wheel (marked OK) when on the the mpg LCD screen to manually reset mpg.

I typically average 18-19 as I commute short distance (6 miles) with lot's of stop and go (kills mpg on a car this heavy). With fuel so cheap, I also leave it in sport mode most of the time as I MUCH prefer the stiffer steering feel (would love to have the individual mode setting on the G90 where you can control separate elements - like Audi) - that hurts mpg big time as well.

I've gotten as high as 32 indicated on pure highway segments of trips (like rest stop to rest stop, no AC on), but usually see 27-29 on longer trips that are mostly highway.

Sounds like we drive the same way. 18-19 around town with some highway and on Sport mode mostly (Eco limits throttle response TOO much). On the highway, I average out around 28mpg.

Pretty much - is yours an AWD as well? On the highway, I'll pop it to ECO mode - but not a big fan of the "looser" steering feel.

My average over the 6,500 miles I have owned the car is 19.3 mpg. Mostly highway driving, in ECO mode, very little stop and go. Mostly with ACC engaged, so no racing to accelerate, and no heavy braking usually.

Best mpg I ever got was 23 mpg, driving from Austin to Houston and back (500 miles) - mostly cruising around 60-70 mph. I calculate actual mileage using fuelly.com, the trip computer is always 2-3 mpg over-optimistic on what I actually get.

I only use brand name gas (87, from Shell, Exxon or Chevron) and had the oil changed at 1,000 miles (next change at 8,000). I usually drive alone, and I don't have any modifications on my car - all stock, and no extra weight over the standard equipment - all I added to the car was a small umbrella in the door and a few CD cases with music ...

Maybe something is wrong with the car, I will have them check when I go in for the 8,000 mile oil change. I expect them to say that everything is operating as expected though - that's the answer to every question I have ever presented to the variety of dealerships I have frequented in my 30 years of driving ...

I burn Mobil Super Unleaded gas only in my 5.0 Ultimate and average 21 mpg using ECO mode. I use Sport modes as required for some extra power. I drive City/Highway 50/50 mix back and forth to work. I did a study last year and found the extra money for Super was worth it. Only talking cents more per tank full when you achieve the better mileage.

You can disable the reset after fill ups if you don't want it to reset.

thanks for all the replies. I think I am going to search for a low mileage 2015 instead of going to a 2016.
