Is the LKA assist standard or part of a package? I can't imagine I'd ever use it -- I never even use cruise control...

Standard. I think of it as a possible safety thing if you pass out or fall asleep.

I use the cruse control often. You can go a couple hundred miles on the highway and not touch the gas or brake. Even on slower roads with traffic lights it really makes driving easy on the legs. You can adjust the distance you want to follow. Goodies like that are one of the reasons to buy this class of car.

I would not relay on the system if you passed out or fell asleep, once the "put your hands on the wheel" alert sounds if you do not respond the system will disable itself, I believe the time out is 30 seconds after the initial alert.

so now you are passed out, and LKA is disabled so you drift into the center divider or another car same as you would without the system.

LKA was designed because of cell phone use and distracted driving, the whole purpose of it is to keep the car in between the lines when the driver is being less than responsible and not paying attention.

I've played with the system and forced it to fail to see what it would do, unlike the Tesla design, it does not bring the car to complete stop centered in the lane, it just alerts and then when you don't respond it disables itself.

I will note this however. I do believe the alerting is somehow tied into the BSM and SCC systems, and I say this because I have on multiple occasions using SCC and LKA on an empty road that had clearly painted lines, driven hands off for over 18 miles without an alert. even with some pretty serious curves the system did not alert me to put hands on the wheel until it detected another vehicle.

One advantage though, it also knocks off the cruise control. You may drift off but you will be slowing down and hopefully hit the bridge abutment at 15 mph instead of 75. Far from a perfect system though.

As I reported earlier, the LKA function in my 2019 G80 3.8L AWD does not work well at all. In my car, it will let the car drift across the well marked white outside or yellow inside lines and cause the green LKA icon to flash and turn clear without enough steering effort to keep the car inside the lane. Not sure if my LKA function is defective or not - will have the dealer check it out at my next oil change.

it is likely the road painted lines. there are some areas around me my system cannot see those lines, even though they appear clear to you, the camera can't see them, there are other areas where the lines are fresh and the system works flawlessly. Most is just dependent on the road condition.

I have seen that on cement roads the system seems to struggle more than on asphalt., likely due to the cement and painted lines being very close in color vs. the white/yellow on black asphalt.

Wish mine did this! Any idea why yours does?

Sounds like the way mine operates. I'm ask them to look at mine next time I take it in. If you do, please share results, I'll do the same.

On my 15 Ultimate the LKA works really well. Sometimes I will have trouble seeing the painted lines but the car picks up on them. I can say that the LKA works rather well. I drive some really dark roads and the LKA is a really nice feature for those kinds of roads.

LKA was really helpful once when I was driving in heavy traffic and very heavy rain, and there was no place to pull over. I couldn't see the lane lines but the car could.

Yes it is very good to have in situations like that. I first thought I would never use it ,kind of like the HUD. But after using it I find that it is a very nice feature /safety tool to have . Love my Genesis!🙂

I moved mine from Standard to Active and didn't see a difference. It's still sloppy, nothing like the G70 I drove.

I had a 2015 Genesis 5.0 and expected in the lane keep assist to work like it did in the commercial where they drive it around the track. No not even close. Sold it in 2018 for Honda CRV and the lane centering work excellently. My 2020 G80 sport isn't anywhere as good as the CR-V. This generation Genesis G80 is just old school for now. I have to say I'm also disappointed on the cruise control. The Honda CRV would hold Speed 2 Within 1 mile an hour of set speed going up and down Hills even at neighborhood speeds the Genesis G80 always loses to miles per hour. The CR-V has a CVT transmission so I think it adapts easier

Once again, mine works great, so I am pretty sure it is not G80 wide issue....

Here’s my 16’ genesis, keeps me centered in lane all the time

Are you using Open Pilot? My '18 G80 Lane Keeping is OK, but it needs a bit of help in high speed turns 60-65 MPH or moe. In you video, I don't see you hand touching the wheel. My Lane Keeping disconnects after about 20 seconds or so if I hand is not touching the wheel.

About the only thing LKA did for my G80 was add to the cost of the car.
