If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Model Type
Genesis GV80
I have read many posts about people having issues with battery drain. I was wondering if anyone has replaced their battery with non OEM? If so, what battery did you purchase? Also wondering if after replacement there is a registration required similar to BMW products? Thanks

Parasitic battery drain is due to a problem with the car (often the infotainment system), not the battery itself.
There is no battery registration on any Genesis model, so far.

Thanks, I have read about the slow battery drain. My battery was completely dead yesterday even though I drove the car for over an hour in the morning. I think the continuous slow drain, coupled with current extreme cold, plus a charging system that never seems to fully charge the battery caused my dead battery. After putting GV80 on trickle charge, it did start up.

I have read that the GV80 has a special battery configuration that is very difficult to replace with non OEM. I have also heard that OEM is often not available and very expensive at $640CDN. If I need to replace battery I am wondering what options might be available if Genesis cannnot immediately supply a new battery. It is nice to know that a battery registration is not required if I have to replace myself.

This is tragically funny, as I got a maintenance reminder email today from Genesis offering, among others, $10 off a new battery.

Has been posted that Interstate has two batteries for the GV80.
I have not been able to view my battery due to extreme cold here in Alberta. The battery cover is difficult to get off and I dont want to break the plastic. But my understanding from reading a post on genesisowners is those interstate batteries will not fit. The reason is that the pos and neg terminals are on the wrong ends and the Genesis connections will not reach. It has warmed up today so maybe I will try to look to confirm. One reason for the post was to check if anyone had successfully used one of the Interstate batteries.

My GV80 is going in for service tomorrow due to engine light coming on. I will get them to check the battery although I have asked many times and they always say good. I know there has always been issues due to the start/stop function never happens - I know some will say thats good - but it also tells me the vehicle never thinks battery is charged enough to auto shut off.

Good news is that they have 4 batteries in stock when I checked two days ago. Unfortunately for $640CDN plus install. I also purchased a CTEK CS Free to carry with me. Should arrive in a couple of days. Anyone else use the CS Free?

I love the GV80 and the Genesis brand, but the battery situation is a let down. In Canada there is no way of checking the charge like US gets on app. Even worse is that the GV80 lets the battery drain so low that not enough juice for a start - even though enough for lights and accessories to come on.

Hello, Can you send me an image of what you received about the battery so I can show it to the service dealer that is telling me they might not have one for 4 weeks? It would really help if I can show them the offer-cause this is driving me crazy-Thank you

My GV80 auto start/stop was not working. I checked and it was only getting to around 60% charged. When I took the vehicle in for service, I had them check the battery and they said it would only go to 58% charge, so they replaced the battery under warranty. No issues since.

FYI, there are two screws you need to remove before you can take off the battery cover. I am not sure where they are, but I have read it here several times so look for them

I think you meant to quote Orangeman. I hope he sees this and gets back to you.

Remember "

AltaSenior643" is from Canada, in the 2021 GV80 only 7 passenger version was available.. This picture looks like it is a 5 passenger model. Maybe the battery cover is different. I don't know but I thought I would mention it.

Gotcha. At least it's a place for him to look for the screws if the cover is not coming off. :-)

I have taken the cover off before without removing any screws, but maybe that is why it was difficult to remove:oops:

GV80 is at dealership right now for a check engine light. Will update on what they say about battery.

GV80 is back home. The battery needs to be replaced. Odd they never offered to do while in shop. The charge is $750CDN to install. I think I will install myself after checking if the Interstate battery will fit but I have my doubts.

What? Not under warranty?

What? Not under warranty?
No its a 2021 and only one year warranty. My issue is that I bought the GV80 in winter 2021 during a crazy cold snap. The day I was supposed to pick up I was told the battery was froze so they could not boost it and would have to tow into shop to let it thaw. I stated that the battery was likely damaged and should be replaced. I was told the battery would be replaced. I have had issues with this battery since new never really taking charge. Every service I asked for it to be tested and always told it was good. I dont know if it was replaced or not.

There are many complaints about the GV80 battery on forums so who knows what the problem is. I have actually had very good service from this dealership (with exception of a tire incident), so willing to let go.

What I did not want to do was replace the battery with a crazy expensive one off design. Which is why I started the thread.

I am at the dealer today and I asked the salesman if there is an issue getting batteries for the GV80. He said, there was an issue but it has been fixed. So then I ask the service guys and all three of them looked up and said there was a big problem and it was a national problem. You have to love those sales people.
