  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Model Year

Genesis Model Type
Genesis GV80
I have a 2021 GV80 Uyuni white I purchased in 09/2021.

In December 2022 rust was discovered inside the driver’s side rear door (on the dogleg) and the fuel fill door paint began to discolor, turned a shade of gay. Genesis agreed to repair the paint issues in January 2023. Long story short, the rust returned after painting it twice and the exterior white paint did not match, after two attempts.

Genesis agreed to repurchase the GV80 through what is labeled "Goodwill repurchase” The repurchase offer is fair and I accepted their official offer.

Here is my concern going forward. My local dealer is 50 miles away and they will no longer be a Genesis dealer effective 10/01/2023. I would like to purchase a 2024 GV80 but now the closest dealer is 140 miles away. Valet service reaches 60 miles, so this is no longer an option for me. Since owning the GV80 for 23 months, and I must say it is the nicest vehicle I have ever owned, and now I must find a replacement vehicle. I have looked at 10 different brands and have yet to find anything that matches up to the GV80.

Do I go out on a limb with the inconvenience of traveling almost 300 miles each time the vehicle needs service?
What are your thoughts on this?

A lot depends on your station in life. I'm retired and have lots of time. To drive 300 miles for an oil change and tire rotation is a day out with a purpose. If I was working long days and had four little kids I may feel different.

Potential problems aside, how many times a year would you have to make the trip? I'd find a place near the dealer for a nice lunch.
Hope your decision works well for you.

Precisely! Same for me, however my dealer is only 75 miles away. Many places to have a great lunch, and several times, I've gotten a loaner to let the wife go shopping.

Buy an electrified GV70. There's no servicing required other than tire rotation which you can have done by any reputable tire shop. Having owned both the GV80 and the eGV70, I can say without hesitation I would choose the eGV70 over the bigger car. It has a much stiffer body structure and glides down the road in a way that even the GV80 can't match. That little shimmy that you experience in the GV80 when you go over railroad tracks or other surface undulations simply doesn't happen in the eGV70.

If you absolutely need the roomier cabin (or a 3rd row), I get it. The GV80 is better when it comes to elbow room. Soft close doors, power second row seats, ventilated rear seats, these are all nice to have but maybe they're not deal breakers for you.

Check out the eGV70. You will be pleasantly surprised.

I need the added length of the GV80

You could learn to do your own oil change and tire rotation too.
Both and few others if needed can be done in the time it takes to drive 300 miles.

The closest Genesis dealer is 5 miles out for me, but I will do my own maintenance because I do not trust those clowns at the dealership.
I asked Genesis and they are cool with that as long as I maintain a service record and don't screw things up.

I looked at a GV80 and other comps in 2021. Put down $500.00 to order one Dec 2021., and also same for a Lincoln Aviator, which I also liked, in case the GV didn't arrive in a timely manner. The Lincoln arrived first and I could not be happier. 12K trouble free miles. While I liked the GV I began to read the stories. Really unfortunate. All cars have issues, but these drivetrain problems on the GV are unacceptable. Further, there is no real dealer network for the Genesis. Just sayin

I'm happy that you are satisfied with your purchase of a Lincoln Aviator. Your model year has had 10 NHTSA safety recalls. The 2021 GV80 has had 3. Just sayin

Steve, most of us have had a great experience with the car, My 21 has only be to the shop for its yearly service. Glad you like your Lincoln. one of my favorite cars was a 88 Continental. If they were not so damn expensive, I would have gotten one a few years back, but I now see they stopped making them again.
