  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2022 Windshield - Bad News and Worse News

I can tell you, anecdotally of course, that thinner windshields are not a new thing. I do a lot of old car restorations. My most recent project was a 78 dodge stepside pickup. the old windshield was pitted so I got a newer OEM one from a 92 D150 at a pick and pull, since the cab design hadn't changed significantly since the 70s. both OEM windshield compared side by side was surpising how much thinner the 92 was compared to the 78. this also applied to the rear glass. the door glass and little highway /wing window glass however were pretty much the same thickness.

Read my actual post, "3 chips in three separate incidences over just a 30 mile span on 3 different roads." This wasn't an isolated incident, I had 3 chips on 3 separate roads within a 30 mile span from tiny debris, which forms a clear pattern. I've had MUCH larger and harder objects hit my Ford windshield, Subaru windshield, Kia windshield, Honda windshield, Toyota windshield, and Infiniti windshield with absolutely zero damage. (including 1/4" hail at 45 mph) The glass on the 2022 G70 is very fragile, this is a documented fact, not a hypothesis . . . although it's pretty comical to hear commentary from someone in Nevada that experiences neither hail, nor cinders, nor rock salt while driving. *facepalm*
I know this is an old post but... total nonsense. My Ford Edge ST, windshield chipped within 3 seconds of getting on the highway with 150 miles on the odometer. Had to have it replaced and it never looked good (even had them try twice) around the seals. Mitsubishi Montero, Dodge Charger and Dodge Challenger all had chipped cracked windshields. It's just the luck of the draw. Granted in most of those were in MA with the terrible roads but my Edge was in Florida where I am now. I had a Charger and Challenger in Florida as well (Scat Packs) and neither of them ever had a chipped or cracked windshield.

Definitely not "soft glass" issue. Just again. Luck of the draw

I will be getting my second windshield replacement this week. My 1st one was at 1k miles and this one is at 30k miles. Both were stones on the highway. Both will be OEM replacements

I've had previous cars that took a whole lot of stone chips and never grew into long cracks. I owned my '09 Genesis Sedan for a good part of 10yrs and was on the original windshield the whole time. I forgot how many rock chips, bulls eyes and even star burst it had, but pretty sure no less than 5-6. I fill the first 3 or 4 with the typical windshield glass repair kit. After that, I just figured I'd have to replace the whole windshield eventually, so I never bothered. But the thing just took more hits and kept on ticking.

Our G70 though, took a single hit and crack starting growing within a day, till it crossed the whole driver's field of vision and eventually terminated into the bottom of the windshield. It wasn't gonna pass state inspection that way, so replacement was unavoidable.

That's just how the cookie crumbles these days. Genesis isn't the only brand this trend has affected. I just avoid following any vehicles that have a higher potential of throwing rocks and hope for the best.

Mine cracked at 4K miles, but it was repaired, and seems to be holding up fine. It's never the same after factory replacement, so hope I don't have another again. But highways are full of crap here in the desert southwest, so I'm crossing my fingers when I travel 1,300 miles in April on this thing, because my SF Calligraphy could crap out at any time with its stupid DCT, and can't run that risk on this trip, so will take the G70 instead.

I'm here to join the club :cautious:

Well, that 'bullseye' is reportedly better than a 'star crack', like mine. Get it repaired, before it runs out. Good luck.

Had my second windshield installed last week on my 22 GV70. 1st one was almost a year ago exactly. Live in Phoenix for the winter and both happened just before I was heading back east. Both cracks started with a small chip just below the top edge of the windshield. Think I can get PPF on just that top edge, but so it won't interfere with the wipers?
Really disappointed with the fragility of these windshields.

When I had my second windshield replaced a couple weeks ago I asked the installer if he sees any trends with Genesis. He told me he is a high volume shop and mine is the only one he has ever worked on. On the other hand there are certainly far less G70s on the road than other models.

My daugher just the the second in a year in her Honda

Yes, I live in Nevada now. My car is constantly pelted with rocks. Ever been to Nevada? Lots of rocks.

My G70 has quite a few rock chips. My grill and front bumper are chipped up too. Thanks to rocks...remember?

Up until recently I lived in Chicago/Wisconsin my whole life. I'm quite familiar with salt. I have an S2000 that lived in the Midwest. The windshield is in terrible shape thanks to thousands of little chips. I guess Honda makes bad windshields! (not that Honda makes them). I had an F-150. Glass looked like new when I sold it. Ford makes the best windshields! Or maybe this is related to luck and the windshield being much higher off the ground.

Bottom line is your statements are anecdotal. *facepalm* *facepalm* *facepalm* *facepalm* *facepalm*
Yea, and my Infinity FX45 dashboard melted after 20 years without sun because someone like you says it never happens. Thanks to his post I will stay further back. Apologize

FYI - this just happened to my 2022 G70 Prestige, and I have to agree with you. NEVER had an issue, yet I have had various impacts. This one, while it seems more minor, at least to me, ended with a two foot long crack and a $2,600 estimate from the dealer. The glass is ~$1,200, so I'll get to the bottom of how inflated the rest of the quote is, but I do relate to your comment...
I also relate. 2024 G70 Sport. 8 days old, 600 Miles, 20inch crack starting at bottom left corner of windshield and spread to 20” in line of vision right over HUD. Quoted in Canada, $1875 to replace.

Insurance? Many states here require insurance companies give full glass coverage.

I think there was a lot conversation about luck. I got my GV70 six weeks ago. I have a crack on my windshield. I did intensive search on Google, there are way too many incidents of Cracked windshield in Genesis brand. There are YouTube channels where this topic being discussed.

Genesis brands trying to establish itself as reputable brands, but just do your own analysis. Search for BMW. Mercedes, Acura, Lexus and you will see far less windshield issues than Genesis. Genesis made the cabin very comfortable and luxurious; but the quality/service product is still inferior
