  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

3.3t vs 5.0 and what kind of aftermarket potential for both?

I bet you could squeeze a little more out of it.👍

Dont't underestimate the value of an honest-to-goodness tune. Even if there's no more power to be gained, just flattening out the torque curve works wonders. That's something the European cars do very well.

I may gain another .1-2 of a sec. with better fuel, say 99 octane and almost empty tank, right now I have ~3/5 fuel in the tank.

Yep, it's possible to squeeze even more, but it would requaire some aftermarket parts to be added/replaced, which I'm not interested at all. After I'm done with all those test/dyno, etc. I'll back down to Map2 annd 93 octane. 0-60 in 4.7sec. its still pretty fast ;)

Just so you know....I owned '13 5.0 Rspec, '15 5.0, both were ~420hp/380tq. Now, when I tuned my '18 g80 sport, running Map2, the numbers went up to ~420hp/520tq and that extra ~140 lbf∙ft moved my car in 4.7sec. 0-60. Doesn't matter how good you launch those cars, there is no way that 5.0 can be this quick.
What tune do you have. I have the jb4. I have the spark plugs they recommend but haven't installed them yet. Once I get the storm springs and install them and the plugs I will dyno it. I have the 18 G80 sport also. Even with the stock plugs running on 93 Oct. My car is extremely fast burning everyone on the line.

Oh yeah, I run Map 2 also with everything stock and I have had no issues.

I have the JB4, I was the 1st one to get and install on G80 sport. If I were you, I'd change those plugs asap. Don't risk it, it's not worth it.
If you plan to run more aggressive Maps 3/5 with e85/93, make sure you have the fuel wires hooked up.

Fuel wires hooked up. I'm good with the whole setup. I agree with you, need the spark plugs hooked up. However, map 2 is the most I will go

Just gonna leave this here. Take it for what its worth. There is a paragraph at the top of the page that describes their testing methods. Enjoy...

Performance Scores — Alex on Autos

Zeroto60times.com is not a good site for comparing times. They do not perform their own tests, and they do not list their sources. Are they using the Motertrend times, who are on the west coast, or the Car and Driver times from Michigan. What time of year? What elevation? The Fast Lane tests their cars around Denver.

I'm not putting a lot of stock in the the specific times on Alex on Autos, just the difference between times. It's one person, testing at the same location, within a reasonable amount of time.

Looks like the Zeroto60 time were taken from Car and driver who has 2 testing facilities. One in California, the other in Michigan. They never tested the G80 5.0. They tested the 2015 Hyundai Genesis 5.0 in the middle of summer, late May/early June 2014. They tested the G80 sport in late fall, late October/early November 2017. They do net specify which track of their tracks they were tested at, so they could have been 2000 miles apart, as far as we know.

I'm very confident that Car and Driver's times are accurate for where and when they tested, but there's too many variables to make a solid comparison between the 2015 Genesis 5.0 and the 2018 G80 Sport based on their times.

So, if this heavy pig ~4600 lb '15-18 5.0 run 4.7sec. 0-60 ....how would you explain, those two cars - '13 Rspec 5.0 and E39 BMW M5, both about the same weight ~4050 lb, ~400-429hp and ~380 lb-ft are rated (almost every where) 4.8-.9 0-60??? shouldn't they be faster? say...4.5? 500 pounds is a LOT weight for the car.
No matter what either website says, they full of sh*t. Like I said....I need to see some numbers on paper to believe their claims.

There's so many factors that go into acceleration, that you have to take most time online with a grain of salt. Ambient air temp, elevation, driver wind, etc.

For example, you're not that far off with your times for the 5.0 rspec. The major publications said that it ran 4.9-5.0 sec 0-60, and 13.5 sec 1/4 mile. But there are people with videos of themselves running 12.1-2 1/4 miles stock.

For comparisons sake though, your not gonna get much better than the same driver, on the same track. Even that's not perfect, because both cars weren't run on the same day. But you're not gonna find much better online.

Air temps make a big difference. Any car will feel peppier in cooler weather. I highly doubt all the cars were tested in the exact same conditions. I love the way my car goes in the winter but traction is another problem.

I wonder if they just ran the cars once and took the reading. I'd do maybe 4 runs. 2 during the day, 2 at night and take the average. Maybe even do some runs in the fall when the weather is cooler.

I would buy the 5.0L engine, buy some lightweight forged rims, a good high flowing paper filter, and possibly some headers if they make them.

You'll probably be even with those 3.3 turbo set ups and you will have a much better suspension with the lighter rims

No, since this thread started there are now several ECU and TCU tunes for the 3.3T that allow it to make big power. Nothing the 5.0 can touch.

However if you want sound and the character of a V8 - 5.0 is sweet.

Im surprised there isn’t a super charger for the 5.0

That figures, Do they have a supercharger for the 5.0?

Im starting to get read up on these cars again since my 2005 cts-v just took $16,000 in hail damage 3 months ago and is effectively totally :(

I like N/A and stock as a daily driver because you have less head aches.

Got any advice on mods for the 5.0 or is there no after market support?

I’ve noticed wheels are heavy so a set of forged rims are on the list!

Can you change the oil or do you have to bring it into a shop?
