  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Yeah, I just noticed their announcement on facebook. ($950 ..... tsk tsk) :D

That's a lot of simoleans for 6-15 hp, depending on other mods. If we mod anything else after the tune, does it render the tune useless or will they reflash for the new mod. Basically, I guess my question is, is this considered the last mod, making it the icing on the cake?

Yeah pricing is a bit steep. I bought their tune for my Genesis Coupe for about $500 a while back and even that was pricey given that tuning on other platforms can be significantly less expensive. I think $600 would be my ceiling on pricing.

I'll be at Thunderhill Raceway tomorrow so it would be interesting to see how the car feels with and without the tune.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
The $950 does include a new ECU, which was a popular option in the Coupe community, and it's a hell of a deal with that, as my wholesaler account with Hyundai can buy a 4.6 ECU for $878.32.

They do tour the country and do tuning events, those are custom tunes, a slight bit more power as it is tailored to your car, your mods and your climate. If you can get 10 people in your area to commit (And commit by putting down a 50% non-refundable deposit) and lock down a day or two (Depending on how many are committing) with a dyno shop, you can have your own tuning event with BTR.

The NC tuning event in April is only $550 to BTR and $100 to the dyno shop, if you don't want a spare ECU.

I assume you tuned your OE ECU? My 2.0T tune with a replacement was ~800 with sale pricing, and that is for a much larger market segment, relatively speaking.
Personally, I would never alter my OE ECU while under warranty.

Now, if people could let go of the peak HP stigma...

I had a service tech tell me the first thing the Hyundai diagnostic software does when they hook it up to your car is get the checksum of the firmware, looking to see if it's been changed.

I'm not under warranty (second owner over 60k) so not terribly worried about dealer. At $1k I'll definitely need to hold off. That puts it awfully close to pricing for the new revised BC coilovers and at that price I can't have both.

If anyone is interested BTR is offering 10% off ECU's purchases, use coupon code btrecu10. This brings the price down to $855. Still more than I'm willing to pay but someone else might want to take advantage.

Ugh... 5.0 tunes please!!!

Eventually my man!

But Hopefully I do not have to wait another 7 years, one month and 18 days for an official upgrade to be available (for the 4.6), not to mention they still got my loaner 5.0 ECU for the last 14 months without much progress to report....

So at this point one can only say.. 'May the force be with' ....them....;)

Anyone know if this tune was tested on pre 2/10/2010 build dates? There were updates to the engine on later 2010's and up.

Sounds like you are saying there are minor differences between the MPI engines before they switched over to the GDI? You have a link showing what they updated before the switch over? Would like to know what was updated.

Link to their shop page. Separate tunes for the MPI and GDI engines.

2009 and early 2010 cars were advertised at 375hp while later cars were 385hp (this isn't referring to the difference between in fuel types).

My search for the difference between the two engines led me here: http://www.genesisowners.com/hyundai-genesis-forum/showthread.php?t=4784

That thread has a link to this article from Car & Driver: http://blog.caranddriver.com/stuff-we-learned-today-hyundai-genesis-v-8-to-receive-10-hp-bump/

"At a Hyundai event today, we learned that the 4.6-liter Tau V-8 in the Genesis sedan is slated to receive a 10-hp increase—to 385—for 2010. Torque remains at 333 lb-ft and fuel economy stays flat at 17 mpg city and 25 highway. The impressive Tau has also received a host of small upgrades for the 2010 Genesis, including an additional flap in its two-stage variable intake for better breathing, the intake and exhaust valves are larger, a quieter timing chain has been installed, the pistons get a chromium-nitride coating to reduce friction, and the oil filter switches to a cartridge-type unit. But likely the most noticeable improvement is a claim of more aggressive-responding transmission programming when driven hard."

My 2010 has a September 2009 build date and the engine change is believed to have taken place in February 2010.

After reading through those links this only applies to the 4.6 V8 and no minor modifications were made to the 3.8 V6 until going to the more powerful GDI engine. I would ask Sam at BTR which version 4.6 they used to develop the tune.

Not sure how true all of that information is. Hyundai's part numbers on the exhaust valve and oil filter are the same across 2009-2012. Intake valve and timing chain does show a production split.

The quote is directly from Car & Driver who had staff on hand for the Hyundai press event. There could be errors but it would certainly be odd since they basically see a presentation prepared by Hyundai with all of the technical details. I didn't verify it myself but someone in the thread I linked mentioned there is a production split for the engine itself at 2/10/2010.
