If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. 3.8 Tech Pack vs 4.6 (with tech)

Having had both I can tell you for sure they are quite different (in a good way).
Like more planted feeling and still be able to absorb bumps well?

Sounds like 2009<2010<2011

Thanks for sharing your experience.

Have the saddle and absolutely love it. Wife thought I was nuts getting it with the darker silver color , but with the amount of black mixed in with the tan, she agrees it is terrific. We will do mostly hwy driving with the Genesis and this is why I went with the V-8. The stability of the ride is very good, indeed.

OK, I just bought a V8 today, got the saddle. The saddle is awesome I'm glad you talked me into it. Much more interesting than all black.

Also, a comment on the V6 vs V8, I test drove both and the V8 feels heavier and in a good way. All that power is awesome and it's a big car, the extra weight feels right with this car. Also, the styling to me is noticeable, the chrome on the doors is nice touch. The engine sound on acceleration is just a great feeling and low resonate purring when you punch it baby!

I chose the 4.6 because at my age (mid 60's) comfort is much more important than sportiness. The 4.6 is just flat out comfortable wih plenty of performance if and when needed.

I think someone mentioned that after changing suspensions in 2010, they reverted back to 2009 suspension for the 2011 models.

You are kidding right? Some of the members here spent thousands to get the newer 2010 suspension. Some even threatened law suits because of the 2009 setup. The 2009 suspension was a major gripe and did definitely not come back in the 2011 model.

That was the biggest troll I've seen on this forum. Don't feed him!

Good info everyone. Thanks for the comments. I was leaning towards the V6, but now I will go with the V-8. Next question is the leather.

You can't go wrong with black, however, the saddle is distinctive and adds a special touch, but it might not be for everyone.

Those of you who have the saddle, are you glad you got it or regretting you didn't just go for the simple black? And what do guests think of it?

I actually prefer the black interior due to maintainance(unlike the exterior paint which is insane to keep clean for longer than two days)

But this is my wife's car and she preferred the cashmere interior with black exterior 2011 V-6 Tech package.

On cashmere and assuming on saddle too, you can see all the little dirt, markings, etc due to the lighter color. On black, you don't really notice it getting dirty.

On the plus side, the lighter interior does help with the heat and does seem to give it a more luxurious look and personality. The contrasting colors of black and cashmere seemed more "alive" than black on black. Also, my wife wanted the black on cashmere with tech package due to the rarity in our neck of the woods compared to other color combinations.

In my car, I have a saddle color like interior and black exterior and it was a good mix for a truck in my opinion but didn't get the same vibe for the Genesis.

All in all, whichever one you choose, you won't regret it(My wife and I didn't:D) and welcome to the Genesis family.:grouphug:

Man, I love the saddle look, hopefully I won't trash the saddle too much, but yes that is true the black is best choice for wear.

The sales guy said that in Korea, the style in interiors, everything is two tone. So with the saddle or cashmere, you have a little more Korean flavor!

The 4.6 acceleration is a shocker how fast and smooth it is. And the sound and purring vibration, wow! I also enjoy the handling of the heavier V8, a little less connected but it feels right for this car, I would say Benz feel. Also, Where I live there is a lot of 30-40 mph roads that would be considered poor in Morocco, but I found the suspension to be fine.

What'd be cool is a electronic controlled suspension that is GPS based that you could set for certain stretches of roads. So the car will automatically go soft when it encounters those poor roads you drive every day.

I purposely chose the 3.8 because I preferred the way it rides and handles over the 4.6; I chose Premium w/Nav and no tech because a) so many service problems that owners report involve the tech package/dis/head unit, etc., and b) the tech package doesn't include anything that I wanted enough to pay extra for.

Folks,

I've been going through paralysis by analysis over the 3.8 Tech Pack vs 4.6 (with tech) question. I know the exact color interior and exterior I want. I work from home so my commute is zero and I put ~5000 miles a year on a car (I primarily fly on vacations). I was leaning toward the V6 because of the better "feel" around town, the slightly better gas mileage, and living in the northeast the 52/48 weight ratio on the V6 would be a benefit in the winter, especially with real snow tires. But when I look at some of the financial aspects, the V8 seems to make more sense.

I have found two dealers in MD where I can get a 2011 V8 for ~$37.5K and I can get a 2011 V6 w/tech through Hyundai Circle pricing for ~$36.5K. In both cases, it takes into account my current car is a Nissan Maxima.

I also checked the used car values on kbb.com of a 2009 and 2010 3.8 Tech Pack and 4.6 (with tech), both with 5000 miles and in excellent condition The numbers show that a 2010 is worth $4500-5000 more than an equivalent 2009, and a V8 w/tech is worth $4500-5000 more than a V6 w/tech from the same year. I also reran the numbers w/10000 miles and the results were very similar. Therefore this tells me that it is financially to my advantage to go with the V8 due to the resale value, and since I haven't found a dealer that is willing to substantially mark down a 2010 compared to a 2011, it makes a lot more sense to go with a 2011.

By the way, my insurance quote for a 2010 is V6:$333, V8:$359, and 2011 is V6:$337 and V8:$381. Therefore there is no real penalty for the V8 or for a 2011 vs. 2010.

Therefore, as much as a I was planning to get a V6, it appears to make more sense to go for a 2011 V8.

Am I missing something? For example, is the expected maintenance cost of a V8 Genesis that much higher than V6?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

The v6 may actually cost more over time re: engine maintenance. The 3.8 V6 has solid lifters that will need adjustment. The V8 has better brakes, chrome trim on doors and those extra horses are a lot more fun. Also the ZF(German) transmission in the V8 is proven to be excellent. The 2011 V8 adaptive cruise control is perfect. The AFLS (Adaptive front Lighting System) is also fantastic, it works flawlessly.

Seems to me if the numbers are close enough not to be an issue then it just becomes a matter of preference. I'm sure you won't be disappointed with either choice - the cars are really not that much different. As I said, I liked the way the 6 felt a little better than the 8, and I'm totally happy with the 6. If I had the 8 I would probably be just as happy. Why not drive both again, both during the same visit to the dealer if possible, just for another comparison, then flip a coin - heads you win; tails you don't lose. .:D
