  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Re: Ignorance is Bliss

I'm particular about my audio, and the difference is significant. The clarity, imaging and dynamic range (bass "punch") in the original '09 system is superior to the '12.

That system was one of the best audio systems I've ever listened to.... anywhere, in any form.
Yikes. For one who is particular about their audio, I'm surprised you have never installed an aftermarket system. The best car audio system I have heard was in an acquaintances Honda CRX about 20 years ago. He probably spend upwards of $20k on equipment.

I had a '94 Isuzu Rodeo that had an amazing system that I hand picked components. There is not a factory system that can compare.

Now that I'm a "family man", stock systems are good enough, and the 17 speaker Lexicon is darn good for factory.

If you can find an '09 Tech, bring along a DVD-A and try it. You'll be surprised...

Or don't... and stay blissfully ignorant with your gen 1.5. :D
I don't bother with DVD-A. Just 320kbps MP3s.

Blissfully Ignorant,

Well this happened much sooner than I expected, but I am the proud owner of a brand new (ok used) 2011 Hyundai Genesis 4.6 V8!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I spent 14 hours today at dealerships across the state of North Carolina. I was not intending to buy just yet, but when I test drove a Genesis with 32,800 on the odometer immaculate inside and out, I couldn't help but initiate the sales conversation. The car was gorgeous, the price was right, and the deal is done.

I drove almost three hours home from the dealership, and this is by far the best car I've ever driven. The smooth power is equal parts scary and exhilarating, as I multiple times found myself softly gliding at 80+ with no complaint from the engine whatsoever. This was going uphill in the mountains, and I thought I was driving 55.

All I can saw is wow, and thank you to everyone who helped with the decision. I owe this forum a debt of gratitude, and I am honored to now be part of this special club.

Congrats, it looks like we both got similar deals.

Charles

Yep! I actually took your price into consideration since we're talking about similar miles and identical cars, right down to the same exterior and interior colors.

Like you, I was also willing to drive a long way for the right car at the right price. I had been concerned with colors, but it struck me when I drove this one that each used car is very different from one another even with similar miles on the odometer. It's really about who drove it last, and how well they took care of it.

Thanks guys! The car was a local trade in at a GMC dealership, and it was the first day on the lot.

I was going to ask which dealer, then I saw this. Think you'll be taking it to a Hyundai dealer for service, etc? Depending on where, I might have some opinions....

I would love your help on this. I actually took it to Asheville Hyundai for a full check up, and they sold me on their 30k mile service which was embarrassingly expensive. I feel ok about it because they found a legitimate issue with the brake fluid, but your opinion on NC dealers would be greatly appreciated.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!

Like I said, depends on where. I was in the Greensboro-Winston Salem-High Point area. If you are talking Asheville or Raleigh or Charlotte, I'm not going to be much help. But I know somebody on here from the Raleigh area (Hi LandoAWD!) who could, for example.

Thanks amartz! Incidentally, is there a dealer you personally like/would stay away from in the Greensboro-Winston Salem-High Point area?

When I was shopping, I got quite a run-around from Bob Dunn, and they were quite pushy about things. Promised they could do the best price, until they figured out the best price for me wasn't going to be their rather high price. I wound up buying from Carolina-Kia on North main in High Point, in part because of convenient location, but also they worked with me. And I've been quite happy with the level of service and customer care there in the three + years that I've had the car.

I remember Bob Dunn, without asking me, tried to reserve the particular car at Carolina Kia that I was looking at (and eventually bought). The GM at Carolina Kia somewhat apologetically told me the car I wanted was "on reserve" by another dealer. My response was, I know who that dealer is, and I can take care of that reserve with one rather blunt phone call. I've no patience for that kind of shenanigans. He said he'd make the call and take care of it for me, and after that everything went smoothly! The Genesis tech at Carolina-Kia was the one who helped figure out and install the rigid collars for me, and show me how to adjust the headlights, even if they were technically "in spec".

I guess Hillsborough is close enough to Raleigh. :p
I do all my service, and did on my Coupe, with Sport Durst in Durham. My only complaint is that they never vacuum my mats, but I keep a fairly tidy car.

All warranty service, though it hasn't been much, was performed promptly and without any resistance. Most recently, I had an intermittent headlight problem (lights would cut in/out when the stalk was hit to turn, or simply tapped) that they could not replicate. They told me to keep an eye on it, proceeded with my oil change service, and left me in the waiting room. One long-as-hell oil change later, I found that they had a stalk in stock, and had replaced it without further question. The techs will let you hang out in/around safe areas in the bay, or watch them work from outside the bay. They'll talk with you, and if you modify things (the Coupe was certainly modified) they'll accommodate you however they can to work your car onto their racks, and even assist with gasket issues on aftermarket exhausts. :p

People tend to avoid dealerships, and I find that many don't know the name of the tech that regularly touches their car, or their service adviser. Build relationships and rapport; win at dealerships.

UPDATE:

I've had the car for about two weeks now, and I absolutely love it. It took some tweaking to get the seats in just the right position and the stereo sounding full, but now that everything is adjusted I'm finding excuses to take this car on the road. I just took it 900 miles round trip for work, and it is such a joy on the highway. It almost feels like it's thanking me for taking it on a long cruise.

No issues yet with the car, but one question. Each side mirror has a large black dot on the bottom corner. I assumed that would light up as kind of a blind spot monitor when another car passed, but it just remains dark. Does anyone know what that dark spot might be for?

Thanks again for everyone's help on here! I am extremely satisfied with this world class vehicle!!!

Its not blind spot. I think it is an anti glare function.

The info on the mirrors is page 4-74 in the 2011 manual. I looked it up. Its been over 4 years since I read and studied the manuals for the Genesis.

This is accurate. It is a whole for the light sensor that controls the autodim feature (just like on the rear view mirror).

Congrats on your purchase! Always nice to find someone that made the same choice that I did. :D
