  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi all.

This is a weird one, hoping someone here can relate or knows what it is.

My particular car is a 2010 4.6 - When first driving the car after a cold start (ex. going to work in the morning) there's this weird sound that seems to come from the passenger side, front wheel area.

It sounds like ... remember when you would tape baseball cards to your bike so they'd make noise in the spokes? Something like that. The other way I would describe it (sorry if this sounds truly weird) but it sounds as though there's a small wheel, picture a wheelbarrow wheel, hidden away in the bodywork, like the right front fender, and it's spinning, but the lug nuts are really loose! I believe I can feel a very slight shudder. Note that this only happens between about (an indicated) 42 to 48 KPH (or 26 to 30 MPH).

This annoyance seems to go away when the car has fully warmed up.

Also, oddly enough, this NEVER happens in winter!? Or at least when it's below a certain temperature. In the spring/summer/fall, it will happen about 80% of the time (from a cold start).

I bought the car second hand with about 45,000km (28,000 miles) and I believe I only first noticed it after about a week of living with it.

Any ideas?

Thanks to all for any responses.

I have this exact same issue now for about a month and I have a 2011 3.8. I am thinking it has something to do with one of the metal clips running up against something as the car is driving or the metal shield covering the rotor is loose and rubbing.

Hopefully, one of you is still covered under the warranty, and get this checked out, for free.

My 2011 did this exact thing. It actually sounded to me like a bag was stuck under the car or something. But it went away after about a weeks time and I never took it to the dealer to see what it could be. Curious to find out now. Wondering if it will pop up sometime on my 2014 R-Spec.

You feel it in the steering wheel? Or just the seat of your pants?

I feel it seat of the pants ... If I even "feel" it at all, it's mostly audible.

I have tried shutting off the climate control as well as popping it into neutral as it's happening, and neither has an effect. Hitting the brakes, same thing, the sound is still there.

However (I didn't mention) it is affected by speed - The frequency will go up and down with road speed, but only within that limited range - 42 to 48 KPH (or 26 to 30 MPH). Above and below that range, absolutely nothing to hear or feel.

For the rest of you guys that are experiencing something similar, is it more or less under the same conditions as I'm mentioning?

Flat spotting tire?
Check air pressure.
Maybe add a few psi to all 4 even if they are in spec and see if it goes away.

I am noticing this same noise. It happens mainly when the vehicle is cold and I am coasting down a hill in my neighborhood going about 35mph. It is on the passenger side and just like the OP describes sounds like a baseball card is stuck in the spoke of a bike wheel spinning down the road... I need have someone sit in the passenger side and listen while I drive to duplicate. I grabbed the passenger door thinking it was lose, grabbed the seat belt, and held the head rest to no avail. It sounds like underneath the passenger door and I think it is related to speed...so it might be something in the wheel hub assembly?

Could possibly be the engine bay plastic under covering slapping up and down. Check the fasteners/screws and make sure the cover is secure.

Had to oil changed yesterday at the dealership and tried to describe the symptom to service writer. They could not find anything loose or out of the ordinary. It does seem to go away after the car warms up which is baffling. Just will live with it..I will admit most drivers would not notice

Hi I had the same problem in my car, took it in for an oil change and they said my tires were over inflated. Took some air out, and I haven't had the problem since. It's only been a week, so I'll post if it comes back.

Hi just got my 2015 G90 same thing..very annoying 30-55 mph

help
love the car but wont keep it

It's the underside wind deflectors that are probably there for fuel economy. I think the little clips break loose and then they start flapping. I actually saw one under my driver's side. Had it reattached today, and the sound is mostly better but there must be another one that is flapping some because I can still faintly hear it. Super annoying.

Same here. 2015 Genesis four-door. Flapping sound for over 50,000 mi now. Baffling issue that my dealer, who is excellent by the way, has tried to solve on at least six different occasions. Even replaced one of these straps on my fuel tank which they thought was loose but that didn't fix it either. I agree with the thought that it's a loose underbody panel but I have even been under the car myself looking, pulling tugging, cannot find one that seems to be loose. If anyone ever solves this please share with the group. Absolutely maddening.

On my friends G90 when they did the oil change, they did not lock down the underbody panel all the way and it made the Flapping sound you here.
