  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I can hear a faint whine coming somewhere under the hood. During a cold start it cannot be heard but after a min of driving it is noticeable from 1k to 2k rpms. Above 2k rpms the engine noise drones it out or it goes away, I can’t tell. With the hood open at idle it’s barely noticeable. It did not pickup on any video I took. I took it to my go to mechanic shop and they ruled out belt/accessories, transmission, climate system, stored codes, rear end, or a vacuum leak. They can hear it more while sitting in the car than outside. They have not worked on many Hyundai 5.0s and said if I am really worried about it then take it to the dealer. The tech said he thinks it’s normal but don’t quote him. They didn’t charge me for the visit and they tried to diagnose for 2 hours. Well, the dealer can’t see the vehicle till late April since a regular Hyundai dealer won’t touch it, has to be Genesis. So a couple of questions. Does anybody else have this and also is this vehicle picky about the oil filters it needs? I have heard oil filters can cause a whine sound. I kept the dealer appointment since I need the transmission fluid exchanged. Any help would be appreciated.

That's a Head Scratcher for sure... Never noticed it w/ my 5.0. You've got a good indie mechanic though. Did you a solid by not charging you.

This morning I couldn’t hear it at all but it is warmer out. Typically it’s 30< degrees and we are starting to wake up to 40-45. I had the kids give it a rev with my head in the engine bay and now it’s gone. Do these 5.0s have tensioner issues like the previous gens did? I had a 2012 3.8 that had a whine to it and it was coming from the belt tensioner. Seen quite a few issues with those wonder if the trend continues?

It might also be the direct injection. Mine sounds like a sewing machine until it warms up.
