5.0 Ultimate too advanced to DYNO!?! Smoking tire, w/video
I had the chance to DYNO my 5.0 Ultimate at a friends auto performance tuning shop over the weekend. Unfortunately, the Genesis is SO advanced we could not get it to dyno. I was hoping for 340HP at the wheels. Here is the setup and results.
Car was setup onto dyno with all necessary straps. Shop only had ability to dyno rear/front wheel vehicles. NO four wheel drive setup. TRACTION control was DISABLED. Drive mode was in SPORT and set to manual S-Drive (pedal shifters). At first the car started to rev/accelerate correctly the suddenly I got smoking tires. It seems that the CPU engaged the rear brakes. AUTO HOLD light was automatically engaged also. I'm not sure if the FULL brake hold was engaged but I had to drive vehicle around the block for CPU to reset. Possibly due to front wheels not moving.
***As with many modern cars. Traction control is actually not 100% disabled. It will have some limited drive assist. As per DOT (Department of Transportation)...all new vehicles cannot have 100% traction control/VSC disabled. Exemptions are....vehicles that have track mode, sport plus or similar. Only cars such as Porsches, Corvettes, high performance vehicles, etc. The shop has encountered this limitation on many Mustang Gt's and others.
As the story ends. I was not able to dyno the Genesis. Maybe I'll try again if the shop gets a four wheel drive dyno.
