  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Back in June, many news reports indicated that the Equus would receive an engine upgrade to a 5.0L 429HP V8 in the March 2011 time frame.

Has anybody heard or read anything recently confirming the March date?

My lease on my 09 Genesis is up in March and I'm looking to get into an Equus next. I'd just assume wait for the 5.0L if it's launching around that time.

I asked my local Hyundai dealer and they were not even aware that Hyundai was upgrading the engine.

You'd "just assume wait"?

Consider the mid-2011 or 2012 Genesis V8 w/tech over the Equus Signature as the Genesis is getting the same engine and transmission -- General consensus is they're both going to be maybe $4K more than they are right now so you're probably looking at about $48K (Genny) vs $62K (Horsey) MSRP and neither I nor nobody I've heard from who has actually experienced both cars in their present configuration (or as much as the Equus *can* evidently be experienced at this early stage, i.e. everything but drive it) has been able to justify the $14K premium.

Chilly,

I look at the Equus a little differently. In my opinion I'm not justifying a $14k premium over the 2012 Genny but rather, even at $62K for the muscled up Signature Equus, realizing a $20K savings over a Lexus LS 460L.

I LOVED my 09 Genny but I just want to step it up a little and if I can save $20K by going with the Equus over the LS 460L all the better.

I'm just looking for some kind of confirmation that the March 2011 for the 5.0L / 8 speed transmission upgrade time frame is "in the ballpark".

Ah, but along that line of thinking consider your $34K savings vs the LS with the V8 Tech Genny! (And maybe buy yourself a 370Z with the savings...) ;-p~

Oh well, I know where you're coming from and don't want to give you a hard time -- I was thinking the same about the Equus until I actually went and saw one in person. Seemed primed to be an out-and-out Big 3 killer but now I think the Genny is actually better positioned for that overall considering the additional value.

Best of luck however you proceed!
