  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Just wanted to check in and share my initial thoughts/findings -

1. Voice recognition - I thought it was completely worthless, but finally got smart and reset all settings, and ever since it has worked great. My Genesis was "pre - owned" for 3900 miles, so maybe something had been set up incorrectly.

2. odor upon startup with a/c on circulate - just like with my 2012 rspec, and the other one I test drove prior, the cabin air filter Hyundai puts in is practically worthless. I plan to replace this just like I did on my last one w/ fram arm & hammer for about $10 off amazon. but i'm not sure if they make the part yet...

3. Dealership experience - Amazing!!! Coming from Mercedes I was used to a good dealership experience and seeing the dealer ALOT! lol I just went in yesterday to Napleton Hyundai in West palm beach for 2 recalls, tires and tail lamp, and saw there were 2 lanes, Equus&Genesis, and then all the other ppl. There were a couple people that had pulled into lane 2 ahead of me, but when I pulled into the Genesis lane they pretty much immediately stopped helping those people and came over and checked me in. Then when I was sitting with the service guy, within a couple minutes he says we're gonna give you a rental car - that was b/c of the tires. I volunteered to hang out and told him I didn't mind looking at all the cars for a couple hours but he was insistent. At Mercedes they sometimes would flat out deny you a rental if it was less than 4 hrs I believe, and that could have been because they were using enterprise. But the cherry on top was that when we were all done he comes and tells me that I don't ever have to drive to the dealer for service again, they'll come out to me, leave a loaner and pick up my car and return it when it's done! Mercedes certainly never offered to do that!! I'm wondering if this is dealer specific or if all dealers offer this service?? Pretty sweet nonetheless.

4. Low gas/find a station alert - ran thru the first tank on Friday on my way to work and the alert pops up "low gas, would you like to search for a gas station nearby" and then pulls up the nav. I just had to laugh out loud, as I can't believe how amazingly good this car is for the $$.

5. Hud shows school zone speed limits!!!

6. So much interior room - I liked the room of the 2012, but this is downright spacious. went out with friends last night and it was nice that 4 adults could so easily fit in and with plenty of more room between the seats. its deceiving b/c when you get out you would expect a much larger car, and I believe they made it an inch shorter than the old model.

7. Pano roof - this was one of the main reasons I upgraded so soon. my e55 had a pano roof and I loved it, and missed it in the 2012 rspec. the pano in the 2015 seems much bigger than the benz, and almost makes it "convertible" like- my kids love looking up at the sky/stars while I drive. *rear sun shades are also great for the kids:)

8. Solid - everything about this model seems smoother/more solid than the outgoing model., and I thought the 2012 rode exactly like by benz. b/c of the increased torque, you'd never notice it's slightly slower than the old one, and it just feels so much more firmly planted to the road it's hard to spin the wheels loose, and I'm in the 5.0. I wish we had awd with the 5.0, b/c I've watched the video on their awd system and it looks awesome - also wondering if that would improve acceleration?

Congrats and welcome! With regards to the AWD, my guess is that it might improve things in the wet, but not the dry.

Its very nice to know your feelings, I am thinking about Genesis. Def help me with decision making.

There are two things I really wish to happen, first is Ultimate come without Tech package, and V8 come with AWD.

I live in TX and have never had a smelly A/C. My trick is to turn off the compressor a mile from home. Yes, hot humid air comes out of the vents, but you are drying off the evaperator. Less moisture, less mold and bacterial living on the coil.

Since you've owned an E55 AMG, a first-gen R-Spec, and now a second-gen 5.0, can you provide some additional comparisons/contrasts between the three cars with regard to performance and handling?

I have an R-Spec now and do enjoy it, but after having owned a G37S 6MT, S4 6MT, and GS430 L-Tuned as my previous three cars, I find the handling to be lacking even if the straight-line performance is better than those three cars. The steering is also light/slow for a "sport-oriented" car.

So in terms of performance/handling/steering/etc., what do you think is better in the second-gen 5.0 vs. the first-gen R-Spec? What do you think is worse? For the things that are better, how would you compare them to the AMG? It's interesting to see you say that the first-gen R-Spec reminded you so much of your AMG, by the way!

Thanks!

Although I have a slightly different car history, I'll add my own comparisons for anybody who's interested. Of my previous cars, My Genesis 5.0 Ultimate reminds me most of my 2004 CL55 AMG. It has a similar effortless confidence in the way it accelerates and rides, always capable without seeming like it's trying but not quite exciting unless really pushed. Sport mode in the Genesis alters the transmission programming significantly and adds a decent amount of excitement.

As for the handling, sport mode makes a difference, but this will never be a sports car. The Genesis weighs over 4,000 lbs, and no amount of technical wizardry can hide that weight. My CL55 weighed about the same, but felt a bit more confident when pushed in a corner (it also had a fully active hydraulic suspension).

Steering feel is light in normal and eco modes, but firms up nicely in sport mode (very noticeable).

Ultimately, the Genesis is a high-tech highway cruiser than can have fun on a back road, but prefers sweeping curves to tight esses.

Is that low gas warning and gas station search only an ultimate feature? Does anyone know? Thanks

The car is amazing. The dealer had my car for a week and gave me a 2015 sonata and I couldn't believe the difference. I have become a car snob. It was so nice to get my car back. I even traded in a sonata hybrid for the gensis and still couldn't believe the difference.

Performance wise I think the word I would use for the new 2015 is that it's more refined. Whereas you could feel the weight difference in the 2012 how it was lighter and you could spin the wheels loose now I just feel like I have so much more grip on the road and the acceleration is there it's just smooth especially when driving in sport mode. It reminds me a lot more of the AMG as the torque is there when the car is ready it's revving high and you just tap the gas and it just goes - obviously not the same as the kick to the back that I would get with my AMG even at highway speeds when I drop the throttle but I would imagine if I had a supercharger on this 2015 it would probably be very similar. Another performance increase is the brakes which are noticeably better which is something you absolutely want when you accelerate recklessly and then need to brake at the last minute-this was something that cost me a rim in the rspec as I was used to the brembos in the AMG and thought that I would have the same stopping power in the rspec and I learned that I didn't😜

Similarities to the AMG: side bolsters that are inflatable are great to keep you firmly planted in your seat, not nearly as cool as the side bolsters that would inflate while you were turning in the AMG but a very nice feature nonetheless. I also enjoy having a full panoramic roof above me that I usually have open while driving it really opens up the cabin which I also had in my amg.The interior on this is so much nicer than the rspec which is ultimately why I upgraded so soon because I now feel like I'm really not missing anything at all from my AMG other than the supercharger and the 3-pointed star, which isn't worth the premium in my opinion.

I doubt it since I have it on my '14 Santa Fe Sport.
