Genesis G80 Wins ALG’s 2018 Residual Value Award in Competitive Premium Full-Size Segment

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., Nov. 30, 2017 – The Genesis G80 was rated the winning Premium Full-Size car in ALG’s 2018 Residual Value Awards (RVA). The award, a first for the Genesis brand, comes from ALG, the industry benchmark in forecasting future vehicle values. Winners show leading competitiveness and are predicted to hold the highest percentage of their original sale price after three years.

“Along with its balanced performance and handsome design, the Genesis G80 offers a generous list of standard features at a lower price point than that of similarly equipped luxury competitors. With the addition of the 3.3L twin turbo Sport trim to the 2018 model year, the G80 continues to garner attention and impress the crowd as it takes its first Residual Value Award for the Premium Full-size segment,” said Jim Nguyen, President of ALG.

“At Genesis, we strive to give consumers exactly what they desire and, above that, some feature value they don’t even know they need,” said Erwin Raphael, General Manager of Genesis Motor America. “This award represents the absolute third-party experts confirming that we’ve hit that moving target that we’re constantly going after.”

Wonder why the article has a photo of a G90, when the article is about the G80? Wonder if the person writing the article knows the difference between the G80 and G90?

Maybe something is off but I see a 2018 G80 in the photo not a G90.

Definitely a G80. Personally, I prefer the 2017 wheels better, but that is just my opinion.

What exactly is the three year residual value? Anyone know for sure?

all I can say is after leasing my 2014 Equus with a 44% Residual , it's blue book value is about $22,000 , my buy out was $27K after 48 mos @ $750/mos!
These car are worth nothing !

Don't mean to pry but why would you wish to buy it after 4 years? It appears to me that Hyundai took a $5,000 bath if it was a closed in lease.
In any event the new Genesis models are vastly improved anyway. I believe the residual on the G90 is about the same. The residual on my G80 is slightly over 51%. The large models typically have low residuals since the market is rapidly shrinking.

Saw another article that said"The Hyundai Genesis is at the top of the list of vehicles that depreciate the most and quickest. The Genesis competes with other luxury cars, but lacks the brand appeal of an established luxury vehicle. Its price tag is comparable to Mercedes or Lexus models, but it will lose 38 percent of its purchase value within the first 12 months. This is a drawback if buying brand new, but could be considered a benefit if buying used. Car buyers looking for luxury can buy a 1-year-old Genesis for $16k less than a brand new one (which starts at around $52k)." Check used car values and make up your mind

Read that too. Personal experience. Traded a 2 year old Hyundai Genesis Ultimate and it lost 50%. It was 2 calendar years but 3 model years and 39,000 miles.

If it’s the same article I read, they also mentioned the Mercedes S-Class which lost 32% after a year. One thing I couldn’t figure out is how they ranked the order of their top 10. Genesis did not have the highest depreciation but they were ranked 1. Why? As for your Hyundai Genesis, I would not expect the degree of depreciation you experienced to be indicative of that of the newly designed 2018 Genesis. That’s just my opinion.

I don’t really care what the depreciation is since I intend to keep the car. You may feel likewise since you bought a G80 (unless you bought it used).

I too expect the G80 to hold up better value if for no other reason than the name change. I was buying new cars every few years but things have changed. My wife no longer drives, so only 1 car now, retired and driving less. At 72, this could be my last car, at least for a long time. We'll see what the future holds when we get there. Would be good if both car and I last another 15+ years.

My G80 had an MSRP of $54,070 and 3 year lease residual value of $28,357, which is 54.4%.

Waaaaaaaaaaa, you know all of us had the opportunity to research resale values before we purchased. Your crying after spilt milk. There is a plethora of information on the Internet regarding resale values. Automobiles are a poor investment anyway! If you even thought about it in this way, you're sadly mistaken. I bought it for what I liked, not what I didn't. My eyes were wide open when I decided to purchase it. I presume yours were also. However, crying about it when you had a choice to begin with is futile. The price of resale is determined by "what the market will bear." Nothing more or less. Anyone expecting a dealer other than Genesis or Hyundai to give you more on trade in is worse than futile. Keep the car and enjoy it. When it's wore out you'll get what it's worth or not. Merry Christmas!;)

Hi Sal, I just purchased a 2017 Genesis G80 in Patagonia Blue just like your picture. Could you send me your picture to [email protected]. I want to blow it up into a portrait and put it in the garage. Thanks, Bob DiCara
