  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey guys I mostly lurk around the forums looking for problems with this car and anything else I wanted to know about the car. So far I found out most problems are with the electronics like DIS and the sub. I have been looking online for prices of the Genesis but it seems like most dealers are asking for too much in my area. I live around Los Angeles, CA. I will most likely get a 2009 3.8 Genesis with tech package but they seem to be hard to find. I wouldn't mind getting a 4.6 model if it is about 1000-2000 more but I don't know if I can afford the insurance. I am only 18 and going to college. Parents will be paying for a while till I get a job. The dealers around me are asking for about $30000 for 3.8 with tech package and $36000 for 4.6 with tech package which I think is a ridiculous price. Online dealers about 1500 miles from me are offering around 25000-27000 for a 3.8 with tech package but I want to get it from a local dealer to see the car and test it out. I kinda want it by the end of the year as well but it seems I may have to wait next year because I can't afford it for 30,000. I kinda want to spend around 25,000 max. How can I make the dealers near me drop their prices by a lot.

Don't be afraid to buy the car out of town. The local dealers will service the car just fine.

Once you have decided to buy the car out of town, visit your local dealer and tell him that you are going to buy the car at xxxxx Dealer for xxxx amount. But if the local dealer matches the price, you will buy it on the spot.

You might be surprised.

Again --- no biggie to buy the car out of town.

welcome to the brotherhood! My advice would be a 4.6 with teck - fully loaded ya know? try a private party, then a dealer and out of town if you must. the v8 can make gobbs of power and can get better mileage than the v6

I agree with getting the 4.6 tech...really worth the money. Plus, I have a brand new Magnaflow exhaust to sell you!

If you were willing to travel to Texas to get your car, I just traded my black '09 3.8 with the tech package in on my new one. My dealer will no doubt have it available for sale soon. My trade-in was pristine with zero door dings or scratches. It would be a great deal for someone looking for a pre-owned Genesis!

Josh what did you get on trade in? How many miles? I wish I could trade up..but afraid of what I would get for mine. I have a red 09' V6 Tech with 33K, also in excellent condition.

They gave me 22.5K. Not what I would have liked to get (of course).

I couldn't be more happy with my decision to upgrade. I LOVE my new V8!

When buying a car there are three prices you need to know, MSRP, Invoice and Dealer cost.

The actual dealer cost for a 2010 Hyundai Genesis 4dr Sedan 3.8L V6 is $30,088, while the average new car price people are paying is $31,961.

When negotiating with car dealers, a good price to pay for the 2010 Hyundai Genesis 4dr Sedan 3.8L V6 is less than $32,109 (or $31 above invoice), and a great price is less than $31,470 (or $608 below invoice).

Whoa.. 22.5K is quite a loss. Goes to show KBB is way off. I bought mine slightly used for 31.5...so that means I have lost 9K so far. I don't think I could go to my dealer and give them $15K plus my car for a new Genesis. Maybe once there are more changes. Josh - thanks for the info - and glad you are happy with your purchase!

I know I wouldn't have mind buying that car from you for 22.5k-25k. It kinda makes me feel like the dealers are trying to make a lot of cash from this as I see most dealers trying to sell the 3.8 tech package for 30k. Also is the 2012 really coming out around early 2011 as I saw on the other thread. I think they said somewhere around March. I can definitely wait a few more months if it will drop the price of 2009s.

Well, lilx, I know it'd be tough to get through freshman year without a Lexicon and navigation system, but a dealer in Cincinnati has a black-over-black '09 base model 3.6, new and untitled, on the lot. Last I knew, they were starting at something like $29k for it, and I wouldn't be surprised if they'd get close to $25k to move it. Shipping wouldn't be cheap, but you could have a heckuva cross-country road trip over fall break--and the warranty would take you through grad school!

LIL - To add to the true statement by OldSpice, also get the best APR you can get. Right now, SoCal has a 2.9% on 2011 models for 60 months and 3.9% on 72 months on excellent credit. It's cheaper in the long run, paying $500 or even $1000 more on selling price if you get a lower APR.

Shown below are 2 APRs and 2 prices($1000.00) difference.

For example,
Price - $30,000
Interest Rate - 2.9%
Down - $0.0
Loan Term - 60 months
Total monthly payment - $584 (includes Orange County sales tax)

For example,
Price - $31,000
Interest Rate - 2.9%
Down - $0.0
Loan Term - 60 months
Total monthly payment - $604 (includes Orange County sales tax)

Price - $30,000
Interest Rate - 6.9%
Down - $0.0
Loan Term - 60 months
Total monthly payment - $644 (includes Orange County sales tax)

Price - $31,000
Interest Rate - 6.9%
Down - $0.0
Loan Term - 60 months
Total monthly payment - $665 (includes Orange County sales tax)

At least for these four numbers between a 4% interest rate difference is about $20 a month. It may only be a $1,200 difference for the term of your loan at different APRs and paying $1K more but this was just an example to show the strength of a low APR in the long run.

BUT, by all means, try to get the LOWEST price and LOWEST interest rate you can(which you are doing anyways), purchase the vehicle, and join our Genesis family.:D
