  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I just came back from my dealer and they did this NEW fix for the drivers cooled seat.
I know alot of people complained that the seats after awhile did not cool like it did at the beginning when we first got our car.

After seeing what was done I clearly understand why.
It seams the venting has no physical conduit whatsoever. The conduit is inside the foam cushion. (there's nothing preventing the foam from squishing the conduit. Without going into to much detail, as soon as one presses against the foam, the foam compresses and the conduit (made of foam) gets squished where practically no air circulates any longer.

The fix is EXTREMELY simple and I snapped a couple of pictures with my cell phone...so sorry about the quality of the pics.

This 1st pic is the tubes ( this is semi flexible 3/4" pvc tube)

Here's the same picture but i drew the cutout in windows paint (sorry about the quality of the picture)

This picture shows the back side where the tubes go. note tube 3 and 2 are exactly the same and that tube 3 is already placed inside the back

Again same picture but I drew where the tubes go using paint again.

Hope you all understand what was done and I can assure you that I don't believe it's EVER been this cold for me.
I am completely amazed how effective it is now and that absolutley nothing was done on the seating portion of the seat.
Also note: they had changed my drivers seat last year.
I've had my car since April 2009.

Guys it works great!!!!!!

Very cool....

Looks like I will have to give this a try, since my seat just barely gets cool anymore. Dealer looked at it and said they started a case with Hyundai, but that really means they don't know and just want to forget about it.

Great info QCTLG! Put this in the "resetting the steering column" and the "curing the rising head rest" and the "almost usless homelink programming info in the manual" list. A forum is a great resource for correcting the little things that make a huge difference with our car. A great thread could be about all of the small things (resetting the steering column, solving the riddle of the rising head rest, the sticking glove compartment door, etc and practically ad nauseum) that forum member have found a slove for...with and without the help of Hyundai.

So you only had to remove the hard cover on the back of the seat? How long would you say this took? I'm really interested in doing this.

This work was done by the Hyundai master tech at the dealer.
I only watched the whole process.

It is very easy to do...the hardest part was doing the cutout on the PVC tubes.
From there it only takes a few minutes to install.

good luck.

Interesting. I may have my dealer do it when I go in for my next service. Was this something you had to push for them to do? Was it a TSB? My seatback doesn't cool, but I know my dealer is going to be like "UH WHAT I DONT EVEN!" lol

The 1st summer (2009) with my car all was well.
The 2nd summer (2010) I complained it was NOT cool anymore.
They changed the seat and all was well again
The 3rd summer (2011) I complained to them a few weeks ago and they called
me to tell me that had this new fix they wanted to try with me.

They did the fix yesterday and am now going for a test drive (Playing golf, 30 minute drive) and will test it. Right now the sun is pounding my seat as I want to make sure it is super hot when I get in and drive.

will let you know when I get back.

I think we need a detailed how-to if anybody is feeling helpful.

The fix seems simple in concept, but I wonder just how you remove the back of the seat? I am assuming that the fix is in the seat back not the seat cushion.

Was this an approved Hyundai fix or a local dealer idea?

Came back late yesterday and didn't post...sorry.:o
BTW shot 75 with 4 three putt greens.

Had it on level 3 for the whole trip (25min) and must say it got uncomfortable after awhile. The upper portion of my back was REALLY cold.
It is much colder now for my car anyway.
I'm very pleased with he results.

This fix is from Hyundai Corporate Canada's head office.
Directions were sent to my dealer.

The 3 tubes are held in place by pressure only.

If I can take the back off the seat, I'll retake high quality pictures and post them up.
Again, nothing was done in the seat portion...this fix is on the back of the seat cushion.

Regards,

Regards,

any updates? i have to say this "cooled" seat cannot hold a candle to the seats in my '10 Yukon denali nor an '11 Jeep Grand cherokee i was recently in. those seats would actually make you turn them down it was that cold (which equals GOOD lol)..

Tony,

So far I very happy with the results.
We've had record heat this week, as a matter of fact, Thursday's temp (Montreal) was 35C/95F with a humidity factor of 47C/117F.

My seat was very cool despite our record heat wave.

PS. I also rediscovered "Recirculate". I almost never used recirculate in any of the cars I've had and having used the recirculate mode made a big difference.

With recirculate on, I could not leave the seat cooling on level 3 for long. It got uncomfortable after a while and had to drop down to level 1 cooling.

Regards,

QCLTG,

Which dealer (in Montreal) did the fix for you? I' d rather deal with folks who are familiar with the issue and have gone through the procedure.

Bernie,

It's Hyundai in Brossard, on the south shore.
Ask for Patrick Grenon in the Service dept.

He'll take good care of you...

Very nice, I guess this idea can be used to modify the front passenger seat + adding the same blower as in the driver side, so both seats will have cooling feature :)

If you know how to get the seat back plastic cover off, please advise me/us how you do that. I am trying to get plastic seat back cover off my seat, and do not want to damage it. Regards, Dan
