  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I remember hearing about how the new BMW 3 series has this sweet little thing for the front grille - active aero - which is enabled during highway cruising for better MPG's. Well, looks like they were late to the party...

...The G70 had that feature already. ;)

The 2015 Subarus had that standard. Outback and Legacy I believe!

Is it actually fully active as in an electronic shutter?

Can someone educate me on what this does, and how it operates.

I wonder when it activates? When Coasting in Eco and Eco-Smart maybe?

I'm wondering the same thing....almost makes me want to get a cheap eBay camera and stick it next to it and go for a drive to see what happens. Haha.

GoPro, GoPro Car suction mount, and a generous Amazon return policy might be a better way to go ;)

Hmmm.... An intriguing idea..

I was actually considering this.

This way I could watch it in real time, and use it for other things, like looking in the cylinders through the spark plug holes, and also taking peeks in hard to reach places around the engine and tranny.

But in the end, I don't *really* need it...

I think that might only work for stationary things. I'd imagine the vibrations from driving would shake it out of place.

Yeah, I'd have to figure out a way to properly secure it in there... Maybe zip ties on the front grille?

According to the manual it closes only during "high speed" driving for greater stability, but will open when things get too hot.

This is way cool, surprised they dont advertise it

And that broken english above ^ wow. a little hard to decipher but cool you found some info about it!

Yes, he put the link in another thread but you need to pay though.

Correct, but I have a lot of it downloaded, and I'm more than happy to share!

I had that in my Ford, my Mazda, and a few others. Been on the market a long time.

I noticed it says G 2.0 T-GDI, do you know if these flaps exists in the 3.3T trim as well?

Also, are there any other cool secrets in the repair manual? I read my owner's manual cover to cover (yea I'm weird like that) and I didn't see anything about any flaps.
