  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I’m new to the Genesis family and am enjoying my GV80 3.5 prestige. We keep all of our vehicles on a trickle charger. But this is our first vehicle where the batteries is not under the hood to make it easy to add to trickle charger. I’ve gotten information from the dealer that I’m not sure is correct and I want to make sure where to add the positive connection for the trickle charger. One place says the small bolt with the red paint on it on the fuse box lid, and the Dealership told me to hook it to the flat metal post in the same fuse box. Which one is the correct location.

I just connected cables to the battery in my trunk, that way there is no question on the connection. I had to remove the 48v battery first. Under the hood was good for a jump, maybe you could use clamps under there. The positive one is marked, it is a flat piece of metal. The neg connector is just a metal bolt under the hood on the same side.

What trickle charger are you using?

You're doing it the hard way.

I use the brand actually called "Battery Tender" by Deltran. I have both a mini-version which I use for my boat battery over the winter and a larger one which I purchased from Costco in Canada some time back for about $49 Cdn. Both worked fine on my old G80 and the new GV80 and use the same cables. I'll take a picture of the setup later. On the G80, it did involve cutting tiny notches for the cables to go through the sides of the cap for the negative post and the cover for the fuse box where the positive post is located. No cutting was required for the GV80 Installation.
The pigtails can be left attached to the positive terminal on the fuse block and the negative post on the passenger side of the engine bay. If you run them back to the base of the windshield near the passenger side wiper, it's easy to connect the cables to the maintainer without even opening the hood. Attached are pictures I posted a few years ago to illustrate.

Thank you very much for the detailed photo information. It was sort of the direction I was thinking about. I appreciate your help

I am using the NOCO Genius 1.

Wow. How many DAYS does it take to fully go through its paces with a Genius 1? I bought a Genius 2 originally, then called NOCO when it wasn't done overnight. The rep I spoke to recommended a Genius 5 for my GV70, so we swapped it.

I just use it to maintain the battery when I travel. It did take about 24 hours For the battery in my wife's Ioniq 5.

If it's just battery maintenance that is the goal, speed of recharging is not the important factor. The more important issue is maintaining a proper level of charge during longer periods when the vehicle isn't being used as in SoCalG90's comment. Whether it takes a few hours or a few days of charging before the maintainer gets into its routine of minimally topping up as required is not really relevant.
