  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Adding bass to your 17 speaker Lexicon with new amplifier

I had it soldered directly. I hooked the amp remote up to battery + just to make sure it was working and the driver side lower speaker was being amplified, not the subwoofer. I must be stupid and didn't read the diagram right, or the 16 has a different pin out. I wired the speaker connection to pin 4 and 5 from connector A.

What is your trim? Do you have 14 or 17 speakers?

17 speakers. Where did you find the pin-out diagram from? I tried looking around online but couldn't find it anywhere besides here.

Got the diagram from one of the members here. Make sure you are working with correct connectors.

Anyone getting turn on popping? It seems my amp is turning on before the head unit and the head unit kicks on and pops my sub. I've read I need a power on delay trigger, such as PAC TR-4 .

No popping at start-up on my setup with a Precision Power amp. What are you using as your amp remote turn-on signal?

Just a helpful pointer for everyone that's doing this mod:

THOSE DIAGRAMS SHOW PINS AS THEY ENTER THE PLUG FROM THE CABLE SIDE, NOT FROM THE PLUG SIDE

If you look on the back of the plug (where the cables enter the plug) you can see the little "1" at the top left side. I only discovered that I was looking at the diagram incorrectly after testing my installation and realizing that my amp was doing an awesome job of controlling the midrange speaker in my driver's side door :wallbash:. Thank god for butt splices.....

Good point! Took me a while to figure out what am I really looking at but got it right the first time lol :)

Seriously though, great write up. With the exception of that little hiccup, my install was one of the easier that I've ever done, and I'm shocked how much better this sub can sound with a little tweaking. It's a shame that Genesis didn't take into account all music styles when they tuned this system because it's pretty obvious that it's capable of more.

That was my exact thought too, the sub really pumps out some serious bass, my reggae tunes sound alive, " kocyk123, please remember to put my Royalty Check in the mail".

The check has been mailed out 🍻 Thanks for your help and the inspiration. Your nick name is mention in the first post. Cheers!

On the side note, I went too crazy with my settings and my sub started to rattle a little. I shut it off right away to prevent further damage and had to add 10" sub with the enclosure. OEM sub works in it's OEM mode now.

So are you still using the OEM sub speaker taps as input for the aftermarket sub?

Yes, that is correct. I wish I was smarter and kept my setting at reasonable levels... Oh well, you live and you learn.

oh, 100%. My rule of thumb with this setup is that I'm never going above 50% volume, or 50% gain on any of the amp settings. I just needed a little more bass. The sub isn't an expensive part (based on my research), but the labor looks like it's a nightmare.

If I had the same approach like you, I would not run into that problem. Yes, the labor requires removing the back seat so it was easier for me to buy a new sub and rewire the OEM sub to it's previous state (probably a 10 mins of labor).

The check got lost in the mail, I'll blame it on Covid 19, sorry to hear you blew the oem sub, I did warn you about the power of that amp, so far mine is is still doing fine (almost 2 year since I did my mod), but my ears is always on alert when I'm playing loud. I think a mono 50W amp, would do the job. for music lovers, this is a great modification.

Good rule of thump, your amp and speaker will last longer.

You are absolutely right and you did warn me. I usually listen to the music on a pretty low volume. However, there is a gorgeous forest area on the way back home and sometimes, when I am in a good mod, I like to crank up the good music and enjoy it along with the views and the drive. Silly me. At least the amp is sufficient for the new Subwoofer :D
