If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Adding bass to your 17 speaker Lexicon with new amplifier

Still have bit of trunk room with the Memphis 15 in there. They pulled out the tire in the trunk and made an amp rack, also where they put my second battery.

That looks fantastic. Very nice gear there. How are you keeping the amps cool?

Nice setup.

I personally would have kept my spare tire, but I see that you have an extra battery so I guess you needed the extra space.

How many watts does the aftermarket subwoofer and amp put out?

1500 to the subwoofer. The speakers get 80 to each channel for a total of 160. RMS for both. The speaker amp has free channels for me to replace the rear speakers with as well. I really did debate about the tire. At the end of the day though I really thought about it and I have only had a few flats in my life. All of those times I was able to eventually repair the tire with tire plug and then a patch eventually. I grabbed a plug kit and air compressor and stuck them in the trunk. Now I just need to remember to keep my fingers crossed. Excuse while I go find some wood to knock on. Lol.

Well, if you get a flat, you can listen to some great music while waiting for AAA!
I also get those wonderful air conditioned leather seats to wait in as well. Maybe a movie in the back seats while I wait? Lol.

I understand. Flat tires are usually very rare. Well, you do not have to worry about dimming headlights or clipping power with the extra battery.

To be honest, I would have went with a capacitor for that setup, but you future proofed the electrical system for sure with the extra battery.:)

Yes. That was really my thinking honestly. I want to expand the system a bit more still. I will put the same speakers in the rear doors, and eventually look at changing out the Memphis. It's a loud speaker, but it definitely doesn't have the same sound quality as the Focal's. That is long term though. Still a good bit away from that.

I will attempt this this weekend. I am wondering why you can't take the pre-amplified signal to the line input for the new amp?

Unfortunately not for my car. The signal is delivered via a proprietary SPDIF connection. SPDIF in the protocol, not the physical connection though. At least this is what my research led me to believe. The shop I took my car to also stated something similar. They were aware of a device that was made to decode the signal and do what you are suggesting. It was not compatible with my vehicle though. Might be worth looking into?

Thanks CarDriver. Yes, that rings a bell. The optical cable and how it transmits data is a mystery to me, and I am a 60yo techie. I did an initial search for a decoder, but came up empty. So it seems the amplified signal is the best, easiest, option to boost the bass.

Most of us are aware that bass takes on average about three times the power you need for mid and treble signals, so adding even a crude amplified/amplified line to the bass will still yield some good results. Not up to audiophile standards by any means, but lets face it, you will probably not notice in the audio challenged environment of a motor vehicle passenger compartment. This car is amazing, really, but far from "quiet".

I put the bass on 10 and have been listening on multiple sources. The music is ok. At LOUD volumes you can tell you are pushing the limits. My am talk radio is muddy and barely understandable.

So... I will hook up my new "infiniti primus" 350 watt sub amp. The $99 amazon special was a no-brainier. I like that it includes a bare wire high level input so splicing into the sub path is simple, and even my age addled brain can twist the wires together.

For you who are new to stripping wires with your teeth, it's a simple project. Power up the amp and insert into the amplified signal path to the rear sub speaker. Easy peasy. :)

This is the amp I got. No need to splice RCA connectors for the high level inputs.

Is says "250 WATT" but it's actually 300.

Hey all, new to the forum and the Genesis (2017 G80 3.8 Premium) and working on doing this amp install and I have a question. Sorry to revive a somewhat dying thread.

Someone that has the 14 speaker system and has already done this (I know there's a few out there) can you confirm which color subwoofer wire is + and which color is - ? I know it *should* be the same as the 17, but someone in this thread said theirs was a reversal of the pinout diagram, but I don't know if they were looking at the front of the connector or the back of the connector to make that determination.

Welcome to the forum. Awesome clean install. I'm about to finalize my amp setup and your arrangement is just what the doctor ordered. I just read through these threads again myself, and I do believe someone has answered your question regarding the sub inputs on your 14 speaker system.

I had an extra sub speaker sitting around to I just tapped the sub wires (into my amps high-level input) and the remote wire and stuck it in the trunk. Def fills in that missing low end. Both subs are working in this configuration.

Only waited 8 years to put a sub in my 2015 Genesis, but I'm trying to do things slightly different than @kocyk123 (great write up BTW). In my scenario, I have the 17-speaker setup, and I'm putting in a JBL Basspro Hub (JBL BassPro Hub | 11" (279mm) Spare tire subwoofer with built-in 200W RMS amplifier with remote control.).

Power to battery is easy, but I'm trying to use the speaker level inputs, since it wouldn't require me to run a remote wire. Instructions are pretty straightforward:

I chose to use the following wires to tap into:

So, I fire the car up, and the amp / sub doesn't power on. I saw that the majority of you guys only tapped into the subwoofer wires. I'm definitely no audio pro, so I'm not even sure why I'd need to have to tap into a left and a right speaker, when you guys just tapped into a single subwoofer.

I'm just trying to make it work by using the wires that are plugged in here:

Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance!

I think you want to connect to Sub +- and then High level input +-. Remember to connect your remote too. If you don't do your remote, it will never kick in.

I just re-wired it to look like your original post, but then found that I didn't have any RCA cables, so Amazon will be coming to my rescue today. In testing, I didn't see any voltage coming from the Sub + - when I had the car in accessory mode with the radio on, so hopefully it still works. A bit more research showed that my testing and looking for DC voltage coming from the sub or speakers was wrong though - I should have been looking for AC according to this article: Is a speaker usually driven with AC or DC current? - Answers

Other than that, the remote wire turns the sub on just fine - just need to get the sub wires spliced into the RCA cable and hopefully all is well. I'll also re-test voltage this evening using AC, just because I'm curious now.

All went well / the sub works fine - just need to figure out how to tune it now.

Thanks again for the instructions!

Glad to hear it! :)
