If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I've been reading some of the different winter/snow tire threads on here and I'm trying to figure out my best option to replace my current tires before it snows. First off, I can't seem to find too many tire options for my current size, and my local dealers are only offering the Continental winter tire.

Are there any Genesis 5.0 R-Spec owners that have opted to go with 18" wheels and tires for winter? Is this even possible? I've been reading some threads where others are saying 18" wheels will not fit on my car because the brake calipers are too large. Tirerack.com suggests that they may but I'm a little skeptical about it. Has anyone opted to put a different size 19" tire on the stock rims with the R-Spec (ie. 245/40/R19 instead of the OEM 235/45/R19)? Will that even work?

I guess I'm just being cheap and don't want to spend the money the dealers are asking for! I may just have to suck it up though! The lowest price I've been quoted was $249.00 a tire and $49.95 to mount and balance all four. Neither dealer that I called would offer to store my original tires.

Any suggestions?

What's snow? :)

Just a little note for you, the summer tires that come on the R Spec from Hyundai ARE 245/40/R19. ;)

Scew the dealer, which is the last place to shop for tires. You will pay top $ at the stealership. Go to discount tire and get a set of 18" wheels with the winter rubber and call it a day. I don't see why an 18" wheel wouldn't fit, as the brakes are not much bigger then the 4.6 brakes.

Picture Montage of how to find out which snow wheels will fit.

Step One:

Go to tirerack.com and enter your vehicle information like this. Then, click on winter:

Step Two. Click on 18" Packages:

Step Three. Click the little link that says "Dont Need tires? Skip to Wheels"

Step Four. Choose wheel you like best:

I just did this for my 4.6 putting 17" wheels on it for winter. They fit perfectly. tirerack has a bunch of engineers that use SolidWorks and AutoDeskInventor to make sure wheels will fit without a problem.

Hope this helps.

I've been using Dunlop Winter Sport 3D tires on my OEM R-Spec wheels. There are several sizes available for 19" stock wheels that should not give any real problem, depending on the aspect ratio you choose.

I wouldn't worry about the 18s fitting; the 5.0 Non-RSpec has the same brakes but uses the wheels from the 4.6.

spend the xtra money and get the tires with rims... dont swap the rubber with your hyudai rims

ppp

What did you end up doing? I am in the same boat with a 2012 R-Spec 5.0 and need snow tires. I would perfer to get a wheel and tire package and go with an 18" rim due to the cost and will get more life out of them....Thanks
