After a couple hundred highway miles in the new Genesis

I picked my car up on Saturday and have had a chance to spend a bit a couple hundred miles with it. My observations:

1. This car is silky smooth (most of the time)
2. The stereo is awesome
3. This car is almost too fast for the handling; triple digit speeds come *very* quickly
4. I can't tell if I love or hate adaptive cruise control (is there a way to completely turn it off?)
5. Uh, how do you lock the glovebox? I don't have a "Key"; all I got was two proximity fobs
6. I've yet to get my homelink working (with a Genie garage door opener). Has anyone else had problems programming it? This is actually my biggest issue. I spent an hour trying.
7. Headlights are only so-so. The HIDs on the Acura TL I traded in better. I'd definitely like to change this.
8. This car is faster than my old 99 Cobra
9. I thought I'd hate the non-touch screen nav, but actually, it's easier to use than a touchscreen. I still have a long way to go on using the voice commands though.

I'm very happy with my purchase, but I guess talk to any new car owner with a couple hundred miles on their car and they feel that way.

1. Key is internal to FOB and releases with little silver button. Push in silver button and pull black body from silver key.
2. Took me a while to figure it out too. I had to print the instructions from the Homelink website. The trick is you need to do a two step procedure if you have rolling codes. Program it like you don't...then follow the second procedure as the second step. I went right to the second step because I thought the first part was just for people without rolling codes. I'm a bit dissapointed in the range. It doesn't work as far or as reliable as our old door opener.

3. Sounds like you have the tech package so you should already have HIDs. I don't know what you might do other than trying to upgrade the ballasts and bulbs to 55W. Mine came with halogens in the projectors which were really weak. I upgraded to 35W HIDs.

I have the Genie garage door opener too and just had to program my new Genesis (long story, but captured in this thread http://www.genesisowners.com/hyundai-genesis-forum/showthread.php?t=3839). My other garage door opener was simple to program. The Genie is not easy to program and it took me nearly 35 - 40 minutes to give in an finally open the manual again. Then it only took two tries. Section 4.39 I think. Basically, have to push the learn button on the garage door opener, push the homelink button and hold for 2 seconds then press the homelink button and hold for two more seconds.

Regarding the car being almost too fast, you get used to it. It's like on the show Top Gear when Jeremy Clarkson was driving the Bugatti Veyron and said something like "you can't just put your foot into anytime you feel like it, you have to know what's up the road that you might plow into at over 100mph". What he said was much longer and funnier but you get the idea.

1. I agree.
2. I LOVE the Lexicon system too. But with a DVD-A disc I have, I get quite a bit of rattling/vibration from the doors. I need to address this issue.
3. It is pretty fast. Plenty of power.
4. I'd love to have that feature on my '09. I'm jealous.
5. Like Disaster said, push the silver button on the fob.
6. I've been having trouble programing my homelink as well. Tried only for 10 min or so. Will give another shot at sometime next week.
7. Headlights are good enough for me. Most factory HID systems seem enough for lighting, IMO.

Thanks! You were right; setting up Homelink is a two-step process. The way the instructions read, it wasn't clear that I needed to perform step-1 as well.


As far as the HIDs, my next task is getting these puppies upgraded (yeah I got the tech package)

I have about 550 miles on mine and I agree with most of your findings. Genesis is fit for smart and value-oriented people. Genny impresses me on every drive. She is indeed faster than my old 1978 Pontiac Trans Am. I disagree on the HID as I also own 2007 Acura TL-S and Genny's HID is far more intense than the TL-S.

I do however wish that Hyundai implement warm/cold settings for the rear passenger seat and for the front passenger seat. Also, automatic folding side mirrors would be a nice touch.

Todays weather in low 80's, I finally tried the cold setting on the driver seat and it felt s-i-c-k. Good sick. It just felt like I sat on a block of ice with the clothes on. niceeeeeee.....

BTW, after much procrastination I was able to post some photos of my Genny on the Hyundai Genesis Pictures link.
