  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

After market alternator

Went through 2 non-OEM alternators, chasing electronic problems for years. OEM fixed all issues.
Going on 3 yrs. with the Bosch... No issues w/ electrics.

Curious, were they new or rebuilt?

In the past I was able to take my alternator to a local shop and have them rebuilt with new bearings. Of course, that was in the days where the most sophisticated electronics was and AM/FM radio, not like today.
They were definitely not rebuilt OEM alternators. Wish I remembered the details. Learned a lesson about aftermarket warranties...they don't always approve OEM parts. They were whatever AssureGuard was willing to approve/send. Had a "Lifetime warranty" (lifetime of undiagnosable electrical gremlins). They were also not Bosch though - saw that recommendation in an earlier reply.

Good to hear. Maybe it's more an overall quality issue than OEM per se.

Yeah, my indie mechanic only deals with specific brands they trust... They're OK with me supplying parts but it has to be OEM or what brand they tell me to get or they won't warrantee the work.
